It depends on how long the oil was bone dry, the dipstick doesn’t go all the way down so maybe there was enough oil to keep from to much engine damage.Try using a oil leak stop stuff.(It’s work for me.) If u have oil leak, try checking ur oil pan for leaks, they have putty dries into hard patch( But the oil pan has to bone dry). Also check the plug & gasket where the oil is changed, or the filter. I would also suggest talk to your wife, tell her that you don’t want her car to throw a rod, then become stranded somewhere unsafe. If she would check her oil everytime she get gas, she should be ok. If you tell her in a way of trying to keep safe. She should take it better. Good luck. 🙂
My mom’ car is a Hyudai Elntara 1999, she bought from a freind( need tlc). I’m a backyard mechanic self taugh because of need. I’m starting college for mechanic in may. My mom’s car has a tranimisson leak I believe under the bumper( yes, hit the curb while parking so low to ground. lol). It take a bottle of transmission fuild on long trips or every two weeks. It acts like it doesn’t want to switch gears, & at stop signs it try to stall out. It hasn’t had a transmisson oil change in the last 5 yrs. of ownership. Is the oil change part of the problem? Still learning so any suggestions are welcome.

I’m not sure what Pop sound means but I want to tell u. I’ve took my car to a trade school/ community college before they fix my car & only charge me for parts. I have a mercury 1994 marquis that needs upper & lower ball joints, they are going fix for me, all I have do is bring them parts. An instructor
watch over the students & they fix car to gain experience. Is a good way fix ur car if u don’t have tools to do it ur self. Good luck. I wonder if the poping ur hearing is a back fire, spark wire mess up, or a serpine belt breaking or peeling on something.I’m not sure what Pop sound means but I want to tell u. I would guess that u might have a spark plug or wire misfiring. Or a Air take sensor or valve need to be replaced. hope this helps.

I had a problem like that w/ my mom’s car. I had to change out a tempstat because of a leak, the lower housing had a crack in it & also had to be replaced. I would also check the heating & cooling hoses leading to cooling coil. Very easy to replace. I hope this helps.

what is a EGR valve for a mercury marquis 1994, I was told I need one. It was on top of engine, does it control the air intake or is a iddler. I’m confused.
