Wow man thats almost unheard of these days. Like jason said the guys from my generation see better offers supposedly and off they go bouncing from shop to shop . I was at the same nissan dealer for 4 years before i made the leap over to infiniti but i think i may have found my home. Or so it seems that way right now haha. Almost 30 years with Ford is very remarkable. You probably still have some discontinued parts laying around for my old svo somewhere huh haha
I remember my 1st big tool purchase…I was still in school and working at a tire shop making shit for a paycheck but got myself on that snap on credit..6300 bucks on a 3 year loan…but at the end of it all its a necessary investment in this business and once you see it start paying for itself you kinda stop stressing off it so much…at least that how it worked for me
When I 1st became a journeyman..like literally fresh out of Nissan school just got my raise all certified and shit.. And so I go and grab my 1st job out of the box for the techs. A brand new 2014 Nissan Nv 1500 . truck has 300 miles on it.came in for a check engine light and lack of power at freeway speeds.Check the codes find a crank sensor code p0335 . so I did the basic checks and say f-it and put a crank sensor in it ,roadtested ok and send it on its way…comes back a few days later with the same code along with a p0300 and a p0101 . also now the customer is complaining about a lack of power at all speeds but symptom is intermittent. Now I’m a bit worried and I go through all the checks.. I got fuel pressure gauge hooked up, consult(Nissan scan tool) going checking signals, I got the oscilloscope hooked up to the crank sensor at the ecm. And everything looked good for hours..then as I was getting ready to call the customer for more info the car started acting up..shaking violently.. I mean this thing was misfiring like crazy.. All in all it ended up collapsing the 2 front cats and plugging up the rears during the diag.replaced the cats. Further diag I noticed I would loose signal from my crank sensor when the truck would act up..the sensor would flatline for no reason..I thought maybe I got a bad sensor..I consulted with the other techs and they agreeded possibly a bad sensor… Replaced it again and roadtested overnight.. Truck was fine and shipped it… Came back 2 days later…now we are in buyback territory.. Same p0335 code..wasted no time I called Techline… I told them everything I did..the pin fits the voltage drops at the ecm the harness inspection the multiple cranksensors the cat incident the swapping of maf sensors.. At the end of it they came down to 2 things… They told me..replace the flexplate…and if that don’t fix it we will be doing a harness and ecm together…I put the flexplate in it…I drove that damn van home for 4 days because I was so paranoid haha..sure enough the code never came back…I still see the van come in for oil changes once in a while and it always reminds me how that van made me its bitch hahah I’ll never forget that one
I guess I was in a similar situation a few years back..I came from a rental car company into this Nissan dealership with the same exact thoughts about the nice schedule the guaranteed pay..but now I’m going on my 3rd year with Nissan and I love it..probably the best decision I’ve ever made for my career..its just so much easier and less of a headache since you focus on one car line..plus the tech support is amazing..plus being certified for a particular brand makes you very marketable since you have factory training..when I went through a buy/sell in July of last year I put in a few apps just in case I didn’t get rehired..I got offers left and right from honda,acura,infinity,Chevy,Subaru..well that’s just been my experience with it though it may be different for others
Sounds like you got it pretty good..I would ride it out see how it works out
This stuff was happening at our dealer when we 1st reopend under the new ownership. It didn’t take long before the techs just said EFF it and started flagging straight time on R.O. that definitely started grabbing attention. Also what worked for me a few times in the past on customer pay jobs is, I would print out the book time for the repair. Highlight the time and attach it to the r.o. that’s way they know why I didn’t flag what they “say” I should flag and I put what I should be getting paid. I get help the customer out but I don’t do agree with you taking money out of my pocket without my permission you know?

Hey guys my name is Turo.I’m from the San Francisco bay area. 24 years old and I got in the trade when I was 20 going on 21 I believe. I did attend community college as a part of an apprenticeship program when I 1st got into the trade but did not complete due to a union issue that occurred during the buy/sell of my dealership. Either way I’m still employed at the same location. Still a Nissan dealership. I’m a Senior specialist level with Nissan hopefully master by fall this year and I’m also a ASE Master Tech.
