I though the same about the shape of the ECU which leads me to believe it may be another designation like EDM, since here in the states no A/T Vx were released. When I look up the s4pa A/T it seems to come up only in 96 and up cars, but the set ups are OBD1 92-95, which is really confusing. I would just buy the ECU’less set up and try my ECU, but what an expensive experiment that would be if it did not work…lol.
There is a multitude of transmission and engine combos that they used. It is possible they were 4 speeds but i am not an expert on JDM auto trannies, seeing most people just pull them out and swpa them over. It really looks like in the pictures is a USDM ECU for the JDM ECU’s are square.
Correct about the p07. Now below I have pasted from another forum an issue that someone had using a d15 tranny with a p84 ECU. I don’t want to run into that issue that’s why if anyone can shed some light to the shifting out of park issue. Essentially would I be able to shift that s4pa transmission without any issues with the p07 auto ECU. By the way the motor is an OBD1 d15Z1, but in japan and Europe it was just stamped d15B.
Thanks for all your input so far.

        I have a 92 dx automatic. I have installed a b15b vtec-e jdm engine , P84 ecu and kept stock dx transmission.
When I plug-in the P84 ecu, I can’t get the car out of Park. If I plug the stock dx ecu, the car shifts from park. This leads me to believe that there is a transmission control box missing that “suspendedhatch” was talking about. Also, I asume that the JDM auto tranny has electronics and sensors in it that wire up to the P84 ecu to tell the car the gear position.

I heard that the JDM auto tranny is a 4 speed.”
The P07 is listed as an original VTEC- E ECU for the D15Z1. Both in the USDM and EDM markets. I think the EDM was the VXi and the US is a VX. If you use it with any other engine you will need to chip it to make it work correctly with the motor. Rmember the VTEC-E has a VTEC endgauge point of 2500 RPM. Normally in the D15/D16 SOHC VTEC blocks its around 4500 RPM.
Thanks so much for the verification on the ECU. So would it be safe to say if I got the vtec-e set up with the s4pa transmission I should be okay?
Its and Auto ecu . see the auto parts on there. its the set of 5 that are clustered 2 x 2 x 1. 5 lead. they are the s5151 i believe and that also controls VTEC.
Thanks for the replies, its not entirely clear (at least to me) how to remove the part that goes into the tranny but I think I get it and will try and remove it on my junk tranny tomorrow. I’ll report back.
