Not sure, just a guess. If the truck has a two piece drive shaft check the hanger bearing. Can cause a strange sensation just before a stop.

When you start your engine and get a belt sequel that last a few seconds and goes away. Look to the alternator belt. An alternator will put a heavy drag on the belt right after start up to recharge from the power used by the starter. If you run down the battery a bit say 5 minutes of headlights before you start the engine. The noise should last a bit longer maybe sound louder. Might help to diagnose.

Can the overhead be so high that they have to pay 1990’s wages. I feel bad for the young guys. I try to help the new guys out with training but I’m flat rate so I got to run fast or die. Not like when I started and people could take the time to help you out. I just hope this is as low as it goes right now and things turn around in the industry.

Hello I’m Paul.
Started with cars in 1986 pumping gas. Been ASE certified since 1995 (i think). Bought my own shop in NJ back in 2001. Sold in 2007 and moved to NC. Working at a national chain now.

Too many to list, I’ll go with most recent. Ford Focus towed in DOA. Broken timing belt. Service writes it up $900.00. Customer promptly tows it out. Shop gets $0.00. Seals, water pump, timing kit all nice things to do. Needed a belt. In this economy some is better than 0. Maybe they overfeed the service writers in this shop. The tech was not happy.
