the mistake that sticks out in my mind, i droped the oil cap during an oil change coudlnt find it anywheres and ofc it happened to fall just perfectly between the fan and shroud, and i mean PERFECTLY through there, it was aon a trailblazer 2006 4.2l, the fan shroud was damaged at the bottem so i could almost squeeze the cap out, so i was told to careful pry on the shroud and the rad support to make room, Well low and behold they just had the truck undercoated with that veggy oil crap, and guess where the prybat ended up. i wish it with right through the rad rather then just nick it bin a better laugh then, but ye thats my momment.

another momment i can think of, playing a prank on someone, while doing block 1 or pre employment at collage someone was cleaning a drive on hoist(4post) well we put a fire extinguisher in one of the posts right where the controls were, well the look on his face when he put the hoist down was priceless, it was one of the smallest fire extinguisher’s u can buy, and was cdry chemical and we removed 75% fo the pressure before hand so ti wasnt a big mess, but eathor way when it started hissing and white smoke started flying we all laughed even the instructor.

if you replaced plugs and wire’s and still having the same issue.
mabey the engine it running out fo rmp and power, and just not doing anything check fuel pressure and volume just to make sure that area is covered.

And also working for GM i have access to this information this is taken RIGHT FROM the service manuel for this car.

              ***********************
              1. Charge the battery if the battery is not fully charged.
              2. Disable the ignition system.
              3. Disable the fuel injection system.
              4. Remove all the spark plugs.
              5. Block the throttle plate wide open.
              6. Start with the compression gauge at zero, and crank the engine through 4 compression strokes, 4 puffs.
              7. Make the compression check for each cylinder. Record the reading.
              8. If a cylinder has low compression, inject approximately 15 ml (1 tablespoon) of engine oil into the combustion chamber through the spark plug hole.
Recheck the compression and record the reading.
              9. The minimum compression in any one cylinder should not be less than 70 percent of the highest cylinder. No cylinder should read less than 690 kPa (100 psi). For example, if the highest pressure in any one cylinder is 1035 kPa (150 psi), the lowest allowable pressure for any other cylinder would be 725 kPa (105 psi). (1035 x 70% = 725) (150 x 70% = 105).
              • Normal — Compression builds up quickly and evenly to the specified compression for each cylinder.
              • Piston Rings Leaking — Compression is low on the first stroke. Compression then builds up with the following strokes but does not reach normal. Compression improves considerably when you add oil.
              • Valves Leaking — Compression is low on the first stroke. Compression usually does not build up on the following strokes. Compression does not improve much when you add oil.
              • If two adjacent cylinders have lower than normal compression and injecting oil into the cylinders does not increase the compression, the cause may be a head gasket leaking between the cylinders.

you can check it with rest of plugs in if you want, just dont over do it, disable the fuel and spark.

But i would still check valve seal’s, i have see it in some LS1’s working for a Gm dealership, do your wet test if rings are showning some wear well thats to be expected.

but i woudl reccommend using a scope and going down the intake and up the exaust and looking at the valve and see if it’s wet. remove the upper intake and the ypip. just MAKE SURE you look at EVERYTHING before you replace the engine or rebuild it.
Also dont forget about the 5.3 that eric took apart with a dead cylinder where the ring’s and line up and ended up with compression loss;), seen that 2 times at my and the Gm dealership accross the road in 2 year’s, its not somethign you see very often but it does happen. they might not be lined up but are close weird shit happens sometimes:D

right now im working ona 2001 ford explorer SOHC engine where im going to replace the timing chains in this engine, its all fun for me and intresting, tho im one of the few younger techs in the trade and i dislike engine, i have no intrest in it, i wanna work on transmission and diesel’s, i know enuff about the duramax, power stroke and cummins.
the way i view it is, now a days if you dont like your job you can always go back to school and try something else, right now with the world in a cluster f*ck prob not a good idea but in a few years ye try changing:)

I say hourly for an apprentice who is learning the trade for the first 3 year’s, that way they have plenty of time and when the service manger is confortable with this tech and thinks he can handle flat rate switches him over.

Well if the pull in windings on the solanoid is clicking once and a while but nothing is happening then chances are the contact’s inside have just warn out, it happens with alot of starters, alot of places that revuild starters love thes job’s, quick clean up new brushes, contacts good to go, but when you do drop the starter make sure that the contacts between the starter and engine block are CLEAN mabey try checking resstance from starter to engine block there should be basicly zero, if there is resistance there it could be the problem, never kno, ive seen weird ass things working in teh trade, but it is sounds liek a starter working for a dealersship what you checked i would have put a new starter all ready under warrenty or priced one for the cstomer.

I use mitchellondemand which does a pretty decent job, and its available to me to use at home through the school I attend for training. If I’m dealing with a GM vehicle I much prefer to use GM service information[/qu
