There are to many factors to really answer the question correctly….

Is the compression low becuuse bent or leaking valves?

Or maybe the compression is low because of a hole in the piston from running to lean?

I guess you could also have low compresson becasue the head gasket blew from over heating the car…

These are just a few of the causes for low compression each of which would be discovered differently and have different effects on the car. All of which will cause lower preformance, how bad the compression is will also change how noticeable the issue is.

Above poster is correct, throw a $10 gauge on and figure out if it is low then if it is figure out why. But there is no general thing that can tell you that you have bad compression other then actually testing it as the only general sign is lower preformance and well there are about 10,000 other things that can cause that as well.

The puzzle seems to get bigger with this car than smaller…. New ecu came in yesterday, crossed my fingers in hopes it would solve world hunger. Unfortunately there was no such luck. Everything changed but nothing changed (I will explain). Old ecu- negative 27 fuel trim car thinks it is way rich so pulling all the fuel the ecu will allow. Car would bog under throttle and when plugs were pulled they looked crazy lean (perfect white). New ecu after adaption time was given shows way lean so the ecu is adding +46 fuel and the plugs are now black with soot. Timing has been verified again and checked everywhere for a vacuum leak. Car itself runs worse than ever. The black plugs tell me the that the car requests more fuel and the fuel system delivers it with no issues so fuel pressure or volume isn’t an issue. I still keep thinking o2 sensor because it is so easy to jump there but is rarely the issue. New plug wires come in today, the new ones previous owner installed look really cheap and crappy so I can’t trust them. Hopefully the spark is arcing everywhere but the plugs and this fixes it. If not I’m out of ideas and it’s time to suck it up and buy an o2.
