Why would you target a coil on plug issue? Do Hondas require valve adjustments ?

I had this same thing after a drive shaft replacement.

I’d keep in mind measuring milli volts from the O2sensors

in reply to: Which Multimeter? #866005
I am in the market for a meter. I do LOTS of electrical troubleshooting, and its time to replace my 20 year old meter. I will pay up to about $400 or even $500 for the right meter. It will probably be a Fluke.

I like the 233A except I would like to have a duty cycle feature. It has a removable readout so you can read it regardless of where it is connected. It also has a hold feature which is nice for leaving it overnight to babysit a parasitic drain.

What is your favorite meter and why?
Being in Biz as an ASE pro you want to find the highest quality multi-meter but Radio Shack is good enough for the DIY weekend warrior.

Now with so many computers being installed in vehicles you want a lower ohms slot to test electronic modules

Nissan suggest a multi-meter capable of handling at least 10Megaohms for testing the knock sensor circuit.

The Maxima owners manual just says use double platinum but if you read the service manual it specifies NGK.

They are most likely referring to synthetic motor oil if they recommend every 15,000 miles. Why do you do it every 5000 then? are you afraid the seals will go bad?
Toyota recommends spark plugs every 120,000 miles and coolant an unbelievably longer length of time for the 2006 corolla.

On the 2001 Maxima I can’t connect to thairbag module or DDL1 line.

I already bought the Nissan Data Scan II + VAG-COM.

Can I mod the cable and install new chips to pick up the airbag codes?

I was checking out Nissan’s tech tools. The Nissan grand multi-meter no longer available. They must have upgraded and run it through a computer system.

in reply to: 01 accord 4 cyl. oil in spark plug wells! #865654

how tight did you get them? In the cars the size bolts determine how tight the bolt gets tightened. You need an inch/Lbs torque. Did you use Ft/lbs by accident? Valve cover/oil pan bolts usually get approx. 80inch.lbs

in reply to: Ecu or main relay #865615

Test the ECU
Remove it and test for continuity to transistor chips. Find ignition cool pins and test from crankshaft pin
Test pin from end to where the circuit board is then from pin to transistor chip

Sometimes there’s contact issues where the ECU pins meet the circuit board
The other pin to check is main power to ecu to ecu ground and to transistor chips. Sometimes you have to change the multimeter settings to get life

It was 2006 corolla. went to three different places. 35S battery Each time bought battery installed realized came up short. Unacceptable . Went to Toyota battery fit perfect.

in reply to: 2004 Subaru Outback Gas in Oil #864566

Why are these Subaru’s BHG’s? Is it that the coolant is not being replaced properly? That’s some of the issues with these Japanese cars. In the Maxima the engine holds one gallon of 50/50. So even after draining the radiator you only get one gallon. I could see how someone could blow it and get the wrong mixture.

in reply to: Stupid question-which spark plugs to use? #864564

what a PITN to have to worry about that at just 45,000 miles.

Check out NGK.com and you’ll see why they don’t recommend anti-seize. NGK claims that the Nickel plugs won’t ever get seized in the block.

Use a long bar to break them loose.

in reply to: 2004 Subaru Outback Gas in Oil #864472

ETCG just got done with a guy that had low compression in another vehicle. They said it’s supposed to be 140-180 psi’s. Yours is 90. You say you want to keep it off of the road but how would the thing drive at all with the compression being so low? Your situation is chaotic.
wouldn’t oil in plug wells point to a leaky valve cover gasket?

Have you ever replaced an engine? If it were my car, I’m just a motorist, I’d either junk it or get an engine swap not even consider a new head gasket. Just replace the entire engine with a used.

in reply to: Subaru setting up shop in Camden, NJ? #864347

Where’s the plant? I thought it was a new facility going in.

in reply to: Stupid question-which spark plugs to use? #864346

Its not a stupid question because the parts stores put “improper” plugs on the market claiming they “fit”. They don’t function in the car properly and misfire.

The other thing about spark plugs is that they only really get changed every 100,000 miles. So it’s something you have to do without “over doing” it; Just follow the make’s engineer’s recommendations. if it doesn’t say anti seize then don’t add it.
