I have just purchased a corded 240v impact wrench – I won’t be using it that often being a DIYer, and a battery will go bad if not used regularly. Same reason for purchasee, speed. Took ages to do a ball joint on my car, as first the thing wouldn’t turn with a breaker bar, then I couldn’t get it to go back on, even with someone holding the hub. Then there were 2 rusty 18mm bolts holding the ABS which were in the way, and that took time to undo. I could of been in and out in 10 minutes like when I did the other side, but took well over an hour and a half!
Will be valuable when coming to do rusted on shock absorber bolts in the coming weeks.

I am a DIYer who might do a bit of work once or twice a month. For me, professional tool purchase would make it cheaper to take it to a garage. I therefore use brands such as Silverline, Draper or Sealey (in the UK). They are cheap but not nasty and get the job done fine for me.
I also paid £35 for an unbranded ratchet set which had 1/4″ and 1/2″ ratchets, accessories and sockets from 4 – 32mm, deep versions of common sizes, spark plug sockets, and lots of screw driver bits. I don’t need to buy anything else because of this set, it isn’t the best quality, they’re not mirror finish shiny, or have a fancy name on, but the set does the jobs I need it for.

Does the actual car battery have charge in it?

This review was good for me. Not because I was looking at getting a DeWalt, but because it helps me when considering an impact wrench for occasional use, what is going to actually work when I need it. If it can’t even handle wheel nuts, or, as seen, moderately tight bolts, then this type/size of tool and power isn’t for me.

Some good ideas there.
In England, people seem to sell old tools in markets, and even motor shops when they have finished with them for their installations, but the quality varies wildly. We can’t, technically, take stuff from dumps either 🙁
Would love to find an old toolbox/chest however. Never seen those for sale in markets, or even on the net!

Thanks for the answers guys.
I could see it being something to do with H+S, but really, how many times have we walked into anything in our jobs, be it a steel table or normal desk?! But then, I suppose if they were wheeled about into the middle of the shop, some careless person could klonk themselves!

Hey there, I’m John. I’m new here too. I was like you a year ago, knew nothing. But thanks to Eric’s videos and through forums I’ve learned loads.
