Thanks for your reply. I did think about chancing it with my digital VOM — but it still scares the heck out of me thinking of sticking those leads up in there. 🙂
I also thought about just buying a large pack of various-sized resistors and trying multiple values until the airbag light didn’t come on…
But like you and Rastian77 both have said — going through the dealer is probably my best bet for the sake of liability and legality.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I definitely see what you’re talking about — it honestly never occurred to me that my insurance company would come back and deny an injury claim because of an absolutely necessary modification that I would make to prevent an injury. But I guess lawyers will be lawyers, and insurance companies will always do what they can to get out of paying a claim…
I hate bureaucracy. I had hoped to simply disable this thing and get on with it… But I guess it won’t be that easy… Gotta love the lawyers and politicians who have made everything so difficult “for our own good.”
Thanks for the NHTSA link — I’ll begin there, and get the dealer involved. Ford does have a program called Ford Mobility that provides you with a $1,000 stipend if it’s necessary that the car be modified to accommodate a disabled driver — maybe I can get them to pay for the on/off switch, since I won’t be requesting a check from them for the actual hand-controls themselves. Or I hadn’t planned on it, anyway. Heck, with all this bureaucracy, I might have to get these things professionally installed, and just have Ford pick up the whole tab. Unless it’s more than $1,000 to have it done, which I can’t see happening — even at $100 per hour for labor, it doesn’t take 10 hours to install these things. I can do it in three, and I’m crippled. 🙂
I’ve installed my permanent hand-controls in every car I’ve owned since 1991, which was the last time I paid to have them installed in a car. I’ve definitely never had to get the manufacturer, dealer, and Federal government involved before. LOL.
Thanks again for your reply.

I have a question about A/C oil… It seems odd to me that you wouldn’t need to replace 100% of the oil when you vacuum down the system. I would think that the vacuum would cause not only moisture to boil off, but all of the oil as well…
Obviously, if you’re replacing *all* of the components of an A/C system, you’d want to replace all of the oil as well, I assume (please tell me if that assumption is incorrect). I just don’t see why you wouldn’t replace all the oil when you vacuum the system down like you did in this video.

That’s a good thing, because I definitely want to go to next year’s meet-up (I didn’t discover ETCG until it was far too late to plan such a trip this year, unfortunately)… Atlanta to Cincinnati is not exactly right next door, but 6.5 hours is not a terrible drive at all… (And if Google says I can make it in 6.5 hours, I can probably do it in 5 or less… Oh wait — the NSA is listening… I meant to say 8 hours… Yeah, that’s it…
). Hopefully I’ll have my ’68 Galaxie ready to make the trip — that’d be an excellent way to break it in. 🙂 Oh, and it’ll be kind of a homecoming for the old Gal anyway — I bought it from a guy in Dayton 10 years ago. So not quite a homecoming, but pretty darn close. 🙂

I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the Sonoma series of vids, and for large jobs like this (engine swaps, etc.) I’d love to see a whole series of vids like you’ve done with the Sonoma. But of course, I like the smaller vids too — brake work, for example, shouldn’t ever be more than a single 30- or 40-minute video.
I say keep doing what you’ve been doing, until a large job like this Sonoma comes up, then make a long series of vids. I think as long as you let people know ahead of time that that’s what you’ll be doing, no one will have a problem with it.
Thanks for your work! It’s’ much appreciated!

L.Ok, so here’s my next question. I do an on-line search for this door-lock actuator, and there must be half-a-dozen different ones that *claim* they fit the right-front door on a 2005 Honda Accord LX 4-door, but they all look very different.
Can anyone give me the original OEM part-number? Because all the listings I’ve found do say that they replace a different OEM part-number, and if I can get the right OEM part-number then I think I have a better chance of ordering the correct replacement part.
So if anyone has a service manual from a 2005 Honda Accord, I’d be very grateful if you could give me the OEM part-number for the right-front door-lock actuator on an Accord LX 4-door.
Thanks.

L.[quote=”fitone” post=67627]I had the same issue with my 2005 Accord. It’s probably the door actuator. See this link for my original forum post and then go to the link in the last post. I found it useful when removing the door panel and replacing the actuator. https://ericthecarguy.com/forum/8-Service-and-Repair-Questions-Answered-Here/823-05-accord-power-door-lock-actuator-question%5B/quote%5D
Unfortunately, I get a “page not found” error when I click on the link in the last post of that forum discussion.
But it looks like the video that richiepearce posted is exactly what I’m looking for, anyway.
Thanks to you both!

So, can I use grease?
Totally kidding, of course. I was curious about why you dislike those copper washers? I never really thought about it before — but every time I’ve done a job like this on one of my cars, I’ve used whatever washers were included. Sometimes they’re copper, sometimes they’re steel…
So what’s the problem with the copper washers, if you don’t mind my asking?
Thanks,
