I’d seen that video but I must’ve forgotten what you said. After how many miles would you say it’s better to leave it be than risk damaging it by changing the fluid?

New symptom: Vents blow air that smells like exhaust. The car did this a few years ago for a short period but it stopped on it’s own, and now it appears to be back. No idea how long it’s been going on as I don’t drive it often and it hasn’t been cold enough to use the heat. Exhaust smell only comes through panel vents, not the defroster vents…? I didn’t think that was even possible.

I didn’t know about the collaboration either, I was only using them as the first example that came to mind of a channel centered around “souping up” your cheap import for cheap.

I’ve always thought that the “cool import” mods should be left to MightyCarMods. They do exactly what you have mentioned, and they do it well. ETCG is more of a serious repair channel IMO.

Honestly I can’t think of anything else it could be, that would be cheaper or easier to fix. If the timing is ok, then I would have to think that either the computer or the cam itself is damaged.

I know you said the timing is hard to access on this engine but at this point I think it’s worth the work to check and see if it jumped a tooth. It seems that you’ve explored every other possible cause.

He said he has spark and fuel. If he holds down the accelerator pedal while cranking, it starts and runs very rough presumably until he removes throttle at which point it dies.

I think it’s time to physically check the timing belt.
