Logically I would think the only effect would be for the brake pedal to get closer to the floor; I don’t understand how this could allow air to enter the system, but then again I’m a noob :unsure:
I’ll ask her about it when she gets home later today and hopefully I’ll get a better look at the car sometime this week.

I gotcha. But I reckon you’re more than that now. You’ve got people watching your videos who will likely never do the repairs they feature; they just want to see someone extremely knowledgeable doing some really great step-by-step repairs on a variety of different vehicles so they can gain a bit of background knowledge, and they’d be willing to contribute something to further that. Not to mention, contributing $5 towards your project is a lot better than spending the $500 you saved them on auto repairs.

I gotcha. But I reckon you’re more than that now. You’ve got people watching your videos who will likely never do the repairs they feature; they just want to see someone extremely knowledgeable doing some really great step-by-step repairs on a variety of different vehicles so they can gain a bit of background knowledge, and they’d be willing to contribute something to further that. Not to mention, contributing $5 towards your project is a lot better than spending the $500 you saved them on auto repairs.

I agree, you definitely deserve time off. I don’t think anyone would hold it against you 😆
I don’t know what your “next big thing” is either, but I was thinking: you mentioned you’d like to buy another vehicle like a diesel Golf (maybe one that needs a little work?), make some videos on it, and pass it along. You should totally do this. Maybe a couple weeks out of a month, just do videos on this “project” car, that would be really cool. You could even start a fund like MCM did a while back to build one of their Daihatsus. I’m sure with 150k subscribers, surely a couple people would be willing to throw in a few bucks. I know I would. Maybe promise donors a few exclusive vids to encourage them.
Just a thought. Anyhow, here’s to 200k and beyond!

Thanks for the response, but I’m curious as to why it’s called an “overdrive” transmission when something like ZF’s 8 speed also has ratios greater than 1:! (both 7th and 8th gear in fact). Does “overdrive” really mean anything special, or is it just what they decided to call trannies with ratios > 1:1 back when such a thing was new, to differentiate them from other trannies (i.e. marketing purposes)? Is the ZF 8HP technically a “dual overdrive” or some such thing?

You’re right. Cars are relatively new territory for me. I’ve only taken one automotive class in my life back in high school, so I certainly don’t know all the ins and outs. I’ve been in the business of flipping computers for a few years now, and thought I could add cars to my repertoire. But I’ve noticed the difference: with computers, I know exactly what sort of problems to look for that can give me a good deal initially and a high return; with cars, I don’t. But my friend and I want to learn, and despite this setback, we do plan to purchase another car once the weather warms up, but with a much, much more critical eye. (And a scangauge!)

Yeah, we tried a leak down test (actually bought a compressor just for that purpose) but while we could hear the air escaping, we just couldn’t pinpoint where it was going.
We unfortunately can’t part it out, it’s actually parked at my mom’s house (since she has a garage) and she would have a fit if we left the car there for months taking off a couple pieces at a time every week :unsure:
We have someone coming tomorrow who I believe has made an offer of $900 sight unseen (we paid 1100). So we’ll see if that pans out.

I’ve seen all the videos, the problem is you get all excited when buying a new car and as much as I tried to adhere to the basic principle in your used car buying videos of “check absolutely everything,” it’s easy to overlook things. Plus you don’t want to take up 2 hours of the seller’s time for such a cheap car.
