Hey All,
I decided to go for comfort.
I bought such a vacuum extractor which sucks the oil from the engine sump, through the dipstick hole. Yes I know the majority is in favor of the thorough way of draining the sump by way of releasing the plug and let it drip for some time. Well, I have arrived in an age category that minimises crawling under a car as much as possible. This also in combination with the normally rainy weather conditions in Holland. I will take the calculated risk of leaving some of the oil with carbon residue in there.Anyway,
Thank you all for contributing I really appreciate it.Sincerely,
Len

Hey All,
Can’t help but thinking that this topic shouldn’t be on this forum. Like I Sparkyxxxx said, “use all info on internet to your advantage and leave the pieces you don’t trust. Let’s not start bashing other people.
Just my 2 cents.

Well,
Quality is a car that brings you to your destination without failing you.
Quality is the same car that brings you there with not much effort in maintenance.Quality in shops,….
I deliberately stopped taking my car to brand dedicated shops. I only take my car to a shop where they are fixing in general all the brands that come in and where no car sales take place. I found that sooner or later the advice at these brand dedicated shops were, let’s say, not so independent. I also pay attention
to the fact if there are expensive status symbols. Or rather, the absence of them. The shop where I go now, I could freely walk in. No reception that wants to keep you out of the shop area and in a boring waiting area, with mechanics that aren’t afraid to show how they work. I was sold when I saw a mechanic put anti-seize paste on all the bolts and nuts he had removed and how tidy all the parts were arranged. How he cleaned his tools after using them.
In short, that is what I call Quality

I highly recommend Scannerdanner’s ebook, and don’t be intimidated by his equipment. I have 4 scopes right now, a Pico 4 channel I bought used from an auction for $400.00, a OTC 2 channel Techscope (PC based) I bought off of craigslist for $250.00 and a uscope I bought new for $400.00. You can find scopes out there for cheap you just have to be patient and get real good at your google-fu.
This one I lucked into for free, widow asked me to haul it way.

Thanks for the advice, I, indeed, stumbled on Scanner’s book. I found there are hardcopies available too.
I’m just dreaming of such equipment right now. Although I recently bought a Velleman pc labscope second hand, for under €100.
Made my first signal visible, the primary of the ignition coil of my Fiat punto. 🙂 It is a two channel device and I am looking for a matching ampclamp.
Will have to wait a bit for my home front is a bit intimidated by my recent purchases.
Really cool acquiring such a great tool, that really is lucky to find such a scope. She must like you very much to give you such a present.Anyyway thanks for the advice, Scanner’s book is now on top of my shortlist.
Sincerely,
Len

[quote=”college man” post=70987]if its the video I’m thinking of its a vacuum gauge with
a compression tester hose.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2sA-q7_FtQ%5B/quote%5D
Yes, spot on, but it had a dual functionality, pressure as well as vacuum.
And, what is it called? Eric didn’t know it’s name in the video. -
