I just got done reading your reply about the oil in the engine (cleanest 100k+ engine I have ever seen and well I am looking to buy a Geo Prizm GSi (Toyota Corolla GT-S AE92) and the famous 4AG-E engine has just over 100k on it. If I switch it to mobile one full synthetic at its next oil change, it may start to leak??

P.S. Love your video’s and a life time subscriber to you.
Only one and i mean only one time I have seen a valve slam threw a piston but Im pretty sure (The guy fights with me over this) the car was out of time anyway. It was on a 92 Mitsubishi eclipse 2.0 turbo that had been heavily modded…. Shaved heads – cam and valve replace ments -over sized valves so on…

He had done the same as you – Was replacing spark plug wires and crossed one. As soon as the engine fired a tapping occurred and he reved the in to 1500 and boom. I confirmed a crossed wire (But never confirmed a timing issue)

Everyone – I mean every one has crossed a plug wire – Its no big deal as long as you fix it…

The above is probably one in 10million…

Autozone gives free print outs of your cars firing order….
I to accidentally crossed spark plug wires when I had changed the spark plugs to an old 1978 Toyota Corolla 2 door coupe. Basic 4 cylinder and I accidentally crossed 1 and 3 wires…all that happened was a chugging sound but it wouldn’t start given 1and 3 are always right after each other on that engine. After my dad cranked the engine I realized what I did wrong via the owners manual and corrected the issue and the engine started up like it was new.

wow, someone like me! I just fell in love with cars and working on them. I personally dont ever want to work for a dealership cause then you really just have issues in that a customer is just a “number” and its more flat rate. Plus its more retail and trust me, after working retail for nearly 5 years, I am sick of it. I like the independent shops personally due to the feel you get from them. They are a lot friendlier and you can learn how car makers design the cars and not just one manufacture of a car. but for tools, a mechanic actually told me to hit up sears and buy some craft’s men tools. Like a ratchet set but dont buy power tools. I personally do not have any true hand tools as of yet, but I plan to start buying them in a few weeks. I my self am also on a pretty tight budget with how little hours I get at work with only two bills right now that equal a total of just over 300 dollars a month.

For tools, is their any reason why the top name brands are so expensive compared to other brands? like different manufacturing process?

For me, I thought I had my choice set; computer tech. Dad got me into it and I know how to build my own pc and fix pc’s. But after a while; I was not getting anywere with it and just found out I like working on cars and it just sticks in my head. I love getting down into tight spaces and turning a wrench. Something about getting someone’s “broken” car and fixing it, then starting it for the first time puts a smile on my face. Plus I feel I can help people out better with working on their ride then their computer. I do computer work, but its more of a hobby were as this is a career I fell in-love with by watching others work on cars and learning how the car works. Mainly under the hood. I plan to go to my local community collage to get my self started in the industry with shop class. But first I need the general studies courses since I suck at math. I also fell in-love with rally/drift motor sports and I would love to be a auto tech for Mitsubishi Motor sports. But my priority is to become an ASE certified master technician. I also have a few friends who have inspired me to get into the field with them constantly modding and working on their rides. But my vary first passion is aviation. Not commercial aviation but stunt aviation; like the kind you would find at an airshow. Or better yet; a military fighter aviator. But considering I am to old for military service and I have a medical condition that denies me (tried enlisting into the US Marine Corps) I choose to help people out one car at a time. Plus I will know whats going on with my car since I am the one who will service it most of the time. 🙂

Anyway, thats my shpeel on why I choose to become a mechanic.

Thanks, so far, I LOVE IT! I can only watch YouTube video’s right now though. I think I have found my calling. I love working on cars and the community is just amazing. From Eric’s video’s alone I have more car knowledge then I ever did before. I also love helping people out with their car issues. Just seeing a car starting up that was dead before knowing you fixed it is just awe inspiring. When I get my first car come February Gonna post a picture on here 🙂 Going after a early 90’s Toyota Corolla dx 5 speed.

                          Thank you for the welcome.

Hi Eric, I am a beginner in the auto industry (will be going to school for it come January) I think instead of pulling the engine out, what you could do is do the gearbox/suspension instead. Your Subaru has a lot of weight to it and that’s a major factor when doing any kind of performance upgrade. If you want it to be all its truly capable of…just do a gearbox/suspension upgrade and that car will fly around corners and just about anything. Let that engine rev as fast as it can. I do worry that the engine has a shorter life span due to its age and just the looks of all the rust/corrosion that I have seen from your video’s. An engine rebuild might be in order for it before you do anything to it. That’s my two cents on the matter and what ever you decide I will continue to watch your killer video’s. Thanks to you I have learned a GREAT deal on cars and want to pursue this kind of thing even more then I did before I discovered your videos. I am also in the process of buying my first car early next year…cant wait for it! Anyway Thank you for everything you have done and I will be looking forward to seeing how this comes along.

                              Till then, Keep dirty :)
That’s actually the plan as I pointed out in the video. I won’t put a performance engine in something till I upgraded the suspension and brakes first. It’s not my first rodeo after all. B)
sorry, just new to all of this; was not in any way saying its your first. I have seen all of your video’s on you tube. In fact tomorrow I am upgrading to premium user and going to start buying your video’s. like one a week. I just find performance and cars/engines fascinating. Keep up this awesome work.
