I agree with you guys. They did not let me know about this and they told me that usually they change the drums along with shoes? Why? Anyways, I’ll do it myself I know how to do it (Thanks Eric). I’ll let you know if I stumble on something on the way.
Thank you.
Hi Forum,
here is what happend. So I took the car back to shop to talk to mechanic. I told him that brake pedal feels softer and I have to pull emergency brake more to get it work. Before his reply I want to give you more info. Last May I had my rear brakes checked and they told me that its thickness is around 2mm (brand new ones are 4) and may need some attention in the future. And I was hearing some mild squaking sound from back nowadays. So I thought that it is the best time to have them replaced. Anyways, he told me that he had adjusted as far as he could but the main problem was the rust inside the brake drum. I did not understand his explanation since I once checked inside the drums (last year) did not realize a lot of rust except the edge of drum. So I said how it is possible that with a new set of shoes the pedal can be softer than shoes. He kept saying the drum was rusty so he could not adjust more. I said thank you and left the shop. But it still do not make that much sense to me. I can change the drums as well it is not a big deal. But still, how can drums can cause this? Do you think is this possible or make sense to you?
I just want to let you know guys.
Thank you.
Hi Forum,
got the light from a shop today. Two of them cost 6$ (long life). And replace it with the faulty one.
And the problem is solved =).Thank you for your comments and suggestions.
Hi Forum,
I made an awful mistake. I think I checked the wrong light. I mean instead of checking the brake light (stop light) I checked the reverse light. Anyways, when I check the correct light I realized that one filament on the light is not working. I swaped the lights it was still the same, this ruled out the socket or other things. Simply, the light is gone (half) bad. I will get a new light and hopefully it will solve the problem.
Thank you for your ideas.
Hi Forum,
I drove my Camry more than 600 miles since the repair, smell is gone, smoke is gone, it seems like the problem is solved.
Thank you for all the suggestions.
Hi Guys,
finally I took the car to the mechanic. He told me that it is leaking from oil pan gasket.
He would like to replace it. He just figure this out in half an our, I don’t think that he used any dye.
Anyways, he is also asking 250$ for this. The toyota dealer asked 236$ for oil pan reseal. Is these two repairs same
thing? If it is I will reconsider it. By the way, he is extremely rude to me =) I don’t know why that also bothers me.
I picked this shop due to some reviews on google (they said affordable and good?) but now I have some doubts.Thank you guys.
Hi twiggy,
sadly I don’t have the time and a garage to work on my Camry nowadays.
That’s the main reason behind this. I just don’t want to have the leak problem once this oil pan is done.
I hope that they know what they are doing.Thanks.
Hi Everyone,
I just picked up the car. Drove like 15 minutes still some white smoke is coming but the smell a little bit changed. I called the shop, they told me that they washed the engine parts that’s the chemicals burning and it is going to go away (I hope so). I let you know if it still continues. If it does not seems that the oil pan was leaking.
Thank you for your suggestions.
Thank you for all your suggestions and ideas.
The next thing I will ask is definetely the UV test.
I let you know when I got some results.
By the way, Camry has 105k on it right now. I bought it around 93k
and sadly I could not have it fixed since then. Probably, as BigC had it my oil leak problem is developing. -
