The wires didn’t melt, only the actual connector did, where it plugs into the sensor. I have replaced the DPFE twice now, both still return the P1401. However, it does not return the code on the first start after clearing the code. If I crank it, let it run, turn it off, and crank it again, the code reappears after about 10 seconds of it running.
I really need help with this, this truck has been down for 3 weeks now and I need to to be working right. It drinks gas and I know that isn’t good for the catalytic converter that I just freaking put on there. This is insane how much trouble this has caused.
EDIT: I’m really concerned with the wires that are running to it. The original wires going to the connector were RED BLUE and BLACK, but everywhere I read, they refer to the wires as wires with stripes on them, instead mine are solid. I really hope that it didn’t get crossed up somewhere, because if it did, then I’m trying to chase down someone else’s screw up. I noticed there is a plug on top of the intake that had also been spliced in at some point (how can I tell a factory splice?), and it is a VERY similar plug, the only difference is a little fin on the back is on the wrong side.
I have what the owners manual recommends, which is 5w30, only it isn’t the recommended brand, as I put in castrol. I also didn’t put in the recommended oil filter, I put in a Bosche. I don’t know if it has the anti drainback valve on it, which I figure could cause a bit of a dry start issue since it is quite a bit larger (in volume) than the one I pulled off (the brand of which, I’m not sure of). I put some 93 octane gas in it this morning which seemed to help a little bit, but not a huge amount.
