thisisbuod has a point, if it was clogged then it woudn’t flow with the thermostat remove, I just don’t understand how 2 thermostats could fail in a row.
Do i need the Tech 1 Scan tool? It says to use it everytime you disconnect the battery 😆 I’ve literally done this 100x without issue. Its says you need it so the IACV can figure out its position. Really…..
If your heat core is plugged and your getting overheating, Maybe try putting in a Radiator cleaning liquid.(Prestone Super Radiator Cleaner) or any other type of radiator flush.
You add it to your coolant and it runs through the system and cleans stuff out. You can leave it in your a few days(3) then drain it. My brothers came out with alot of rusty brown swag. He then added coolent and his AC and heater worked great.
I’m no expect but this is what I would do, Replace your thermostat after the above procedure, also test it as mentioned above.
Keep us informed as to your situation.
I would cay stay with the new alternator it improves reliability alot on a old vehicle. Have you changed the oxygen sensors? I had a problem with my old car stalling with AC load, I switched alot of parts with no sucess(TPS,IACV, Throttle body Gasket, Air filter) then tried a O2 sensor, now I cant stall it no matter what.
Intake gasket change is alot simpler i hear that Head Gasket. How do I know if the coolant is going into the oil? Besides complete destruction to bearings? My oil changes have been very normal yet far, no discolorations yet. My temperature gauge stays fairly low.
What tools for intake manifold? 1/2 torque wrench ok?for the autozone page what does “Note the position of the pushrods for assembly” Mean? Thanks for this post ukrkoz.
wokko7 I hope your right about not blowing a headgasket. I don’t neglect my vehicle as many do. What should I replace to prevent headgasket issues? Thermostat would be a good start i’m guessing. I own a Factory service manual and a Cylmers.
ok dayco sounds ‘okay’ quality. I can only get a gates tensioner from rock auto only 🙁 . I hear GoodYear Tensioners are great and I can get them locally at the auto parts store. Gates or Goodyear?
How are dayco Tensioners? Any good?
Sounds unanimous. I’ll switch it out for a gates belt tensioner and see if that solves it. Thanks to all for your help. I’ll post back with the results.
When my used vehicle stalled out in the very low rpm range(600pm-1200rpm) basically unless I gased it, I changed the IAC like you with no change 🙁 . Next I did the oxygen sensor, Throttle body Gasket, and TPS. That fixed the issue. B)
I bought it off rock auto. I live in canada so shipping it back might be costly. I bought it on March 17, so i’m past 30 return time. Thoughts? Buy a new one? Not a Dorman I Presume?
Is there a way of testing if the tensioner good?
The car is a 1991 Pontiac Sunbird LE v6 3.1L
DORMAN Part # 419101 is what I bought. I really hope that the belt tensioner is good 🙁 . Is this likely?
What color is the smoke?
tomatofarmer1 your the man. I checked the trunk but not under the carpet on the cover. Keep farming those tomato’s!!! Thanks so much!!!
