Hey guys,
Same problem, different car.
So here’s my backstory:
2003 Chryler TC 3.8 A604
Issue:
when accelerating gently, shift from 1st to 2nd seems hesitant, when transmission fluid is warm. All good when cold, worse with LPG on / AC off.
Replaced:
Shift solenoid pack, tranny flush (premium German brand Atf+4) + filter, Input/output speed sensors, code reader came back negative, clutch thickness even with roughly 50% left @ 150 tsd mls.
I through the speed sensors at it and that seems to have helped a bit, however, there is still an ever so slight delay. I have read it may be related to the AT PCU being faulty and needing a replacement, but am unsure.
Awesome, thanks! It turned out to be a wiring problem with the clutch itself.
Works perfectly now!
As I said on the youtubes,
We recently got ourselves a 1983 AMC Jeep CJ 5 258 in pretty ok condition. We had to pull out the emissions system as it messed up everything in that early ECU controlled carburetor. Other than that we by now exchanged so much we could’ve opened our own youtube channel ๐
In any case, the 258 or 4.2 straight 6 is a pretty common engine in those vehicles, the jeep is plenty light weight to put it on a regular 2ton lift, it pulls well, and is generally interesting for demonstrating single, double, or quad cam carburetors.
Plus it’s a domestic, so surely very popular with your fanbase at home ๐

Hey mate,
Yea, I was quite happy about that. The customer walked out after no more than 30 minutes (including the ECU reset). I like simple and clean fixes. And the guy didn’t have to pay much either so we were both happy ๐
Cheers

Hey mate,
You can find those on the Autozone website to some extent, but primarily on specific parts sites, like the ones below.
I put several links into a topic in the how to section a few weeks ago for nearly all Asian makes.

Bloody brilliant I must say !!!

Well I had a 96 Impreza with a faulty third solenoid error (OBDI blink code). The tranny fluid was more or less brown to barbecue colored with a very nasty odor. I changed out one half, drove it for a few days, and then poured out another half and changed that too (without taking it all apart, you can only drain half at a time). The error was resolved, solenoids can get stuck due to too high viscosity fluid or due to debris locking them up.

Hey mate,
It appears the pre 08 98 1MZ came without an EGR. I pulled up the toyota part reference catalog and found a difference in the manifold parts starting August 1998.

To be perfectly honest, I switched to Audio engineering, which is more fun and pays more by the hour, but also is a bit rare of a profession so not much work around here in Frankfurt. Considering going back the other way after moving back to the states, we’ll see ๐
