The videos that you posted didn’t work. Also, air in the cooling system would drain coolant:blink: I’m also gonna re-check the timing belt and count the teeth on it again.

Coolant was draining like crazy and car would start to over heat. Add more coolant, temp went back to normal. After driving but 30mins or so, car would start to over heat again.

I bought the car with a blown head gasket and used this stuff called steel seal as a temp fix until I could get the time to replace the head gasket. When I changed out the timing belt my buddy and I both counted the teeth a few times to make sure they where correct, and they were. Also, I forget to minion this before, but when I did get the timing belt banjo tight and drove the car around for a little bit in worked great. But after about 15 mins, the belt came loose and you could see the flex in the belt. Then that’s when my CEL started blinking indicating I had a misfire in all four cylinders.

Ok thanks. Sometime soon I’ll be tearing open the block to replace my head gasket along with some other gaskets. So I’ll keep posted if I find anything out.

That’s the thing, I watched this video over and over again to make sure that I was doing it right, and to no avail, it didn’t work. However, when I did this on my other 99 civic vtec, I had no problems with tighten it as done in the video.

Can something go wrong with the tensioner pulley and allow it not to tighten or stay tightened? This is what’s been bothering me is that the only thing I can isolate the problem down to is just replacing the tensioner pulley since this method of tighten worked on the 99 and not the 98 none vtec.

Correct non vtec, right around 250k, no tapping. I’ll check the oil and the valves when I can.

Ok I will check that out as soon as I can. The reason I ask about the pulley, is that when I first got the car, I had that same ruff problem (the crank being off). I noticed the timing belt had to much flex. So I took off that tensioner pulley and replaced it with the one I got off of my 99 vtec civic. When I was comparing them, the one I got off of the 98 non vtec was bigger then the one from the 99. Now the problem I have with this is that I can’t get it to tighter up at all unless I take a crow bar and pull up on the pulley itself then tighten down the bolt. I have watched your video on how to tighten it, and I just can’t get it to tightened up unless I do the crow bar thing.

Ok so I finally got a day off when it was nice out to work on the car. It was off on the crankshaft. I got everything aligned and got it back on. The aggressive jerking of the car has stopped but it still has this growl/spudder when you hit the gas and it goes on up until 4k or so.

Also, is their a size difference in the tensioner pulley between a 98 civic non vtec and a 99 civic vtec?
