depends on whatever flavor you like….mopar is good with their tier system with their training…easiest by far for most of brands out there…

sometimes, easiest is vw or volvo brand..personal choice. i had been with hyundai around 2-3 years on and off..unless you are in smaller dealership i wouldn’t even bother…

hey, chevyman21. i had been at gm dealer for about a little over 1 year..they are not bad brand. except depends on recall and pay scale of it….common pattern of failure in gm is struts, timing chains, intake gaskets…..anything electrical diagnosis….somewhat different from other brands out in the world….

i had been doing tons of t-belts found them to more fun to do and easier than t-chains …not much stretch issue….hyundai t-chains on the hand…i don’t even want to try without proper tool to hold everything in place…vague to work on. not much information either….

i had worked in indy shops….most of them were hacks….cheap of cheap employers and stole and lost my tools without paying me back for them.

i had chance to touch almost every pos under sun, work for vw, volvo, hyundai, kia, multi brand dealer(subaru,mb, smart, sprinter, bmw),mopar, gm

european brands are my favorite…but, training wise, volve and gm is one of better brands for that…hyundai and kia training is kind of vague, i was certified with them back in 2013 but, i left because of over warranty crap work with bs employer attitude…

indy shops are fine as long as you can learn proper way…not just hack way. anywhere you can obtain hack technique anyway.

        good luck to you.keep learning

i had done those inline spark tester but, one time, coil jumped over 20kv but, two days later crap out…still sitting in our parking lot….i would use scope to get some graph going….

anyway, people like start part shotgun…anyway…most of young guns would…

picture above…almost only way to test when even dealer wouldn’t have proper testing wires anyway.

addition to your s60 line: main cause is not just transmission fluid, i found that transmission cooler inside radiator would fail and then, coolant would mixed into transmission fluid and then, blow apart clutch pack and such…once you get transmission pan off, bottom will be full of metal.

            overall, they are good vehicles..

i had worked many different brands in dealer level and independant level. vw,subaru, smart,MB,alfa romeo, fiat, mopar, hyundai, even GM….subaru would be very difficult to make money in flat rate pay plan.

some of subaru headgasket repair pays around 4-5 hours….difficult to beat that time,

hyundai warranty: i worked both flat rate and hourly, warranty repair when you have done same repair about 3-4 times then, you get pretty fast…

GM pays actually best so far….as long as it’s motor repair.

vw i never worked flat rate…..

figure out where you want to go.
                good luck to you. cheers
As of right now I have the choice of several factory training programs to enter via a local community college. I have talked to the instructors, and I still haven’t got the faintest clue which manufacturer would be best.

I have the choice between GM’s ASEP, Toyota’s T-TEN, Honda’s PACT, and MOPAR/Chrysler’s CAP factory training programs. If you were in my shoes, looking to get your foot into the industry which of these programs would you go through and why?
it’s only school for starting point…i would go Gm training, personally took VW school.

whatever make you excited to be an auto mechanic then, do it…

what kind of working you looking? auto side or heavy ?

fleet side job is usually better long run…hard to get in but…

                        don’t worry..i’d been there with employers not straightforward…better off…for you…
people who are down to earth and earnest about what they say is better off in long run..

i think CAT rental or CAT dealer are good company to go to…
in US, i think dealership is not as good..
kevk62 I have a 2 sided auto shop. On the one side we do regular maintenance and repairs on all makes and models of cars, trucks, and suv’s . On the other side we do custom restorations on Classic cars and trucks. The truck in the picture under my screen name is mine and one of my restorations. I will add so pictures of a couple others also. Now to your next question. About 12 years ago the Chevy dealer I was working for told me if I thought I knew more than he did then I should have my own shop.
So after thinking about it for a couple days I found a small one bay garage for rent. It didn’t take me long to find out I didn’t know near as much about business as I thought I did. I had no idea how much Insurances and different expenses were going to be. I didn’t have a good enough grasp on how accounts payable and receivable should really work not to mention taxes and all the different business licenses needed… Oh and that I needed to be Bonded. Well anyway long story short there were a ton of people that helped me. Many of the customers from the Chevy dealership trusted me and my work and spread the word that I was the guy to see and we just grew from there . Well I could go on and on and tell the whole lone drawn out story but I don’t want to bore you more then I already have. But I will say this ….If you want to start your own shop do your research and don’t buy a building and be locked down .. find something you can rent or lease . Well I hope my rambling gave you some insight. Best of luck to you .
thanks for your insight…i got hired on at local gm dealer…only beef i have..gm training program kicking me out on all computers…seems like only at work it’s working.

tons of learning and growing to do.fun fun fun.

one day, i can try to get my own…even bodyshop sounds like a good plan in future…i just go learn new product line and new people.
