I believe the main problem is the absence of fuel being sprayed on the back of the valves to get any cleaner to them. The fuel and the additives get dumped into the cylinder directly while egr systems deposit carbon or soot onto the back of the valves. The VM eco diesels have a terrible problem of the intakes coking up. Takes out the active runner system on the manifold. I believe some makers are adding an injector back into intake runners to help control the problem and eliminate the cold start misfires.

Flat tappet not so much, however I know for sure chrysler and Chevy have trouble with the Multiple displacement/cylinder deactivation lifters either collapsing or the rollers taking out the cams.

          hello,

My name is Kenny. I live in Texas and am a heavy line technician at a Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership. I have been into vehicles all of my life. My only technical training was in the Marines taking the Automotive Technician Basic Course. From there I went on to my 1st dealership as a lube tech, and worked my way up.
I am currently level 2 with FCA and do engine (gas and diesel), differential, electrical and dabble in transmission rebuilding (work in progress).
