Really rattles in gear especially in reverse.
I caught a break.noise really rattling now. Sounds like alternatior bearings.
I replaced it but noise is still there. Not sure what to do next.
Top idler pulley replaced. Should the bearings rattle a little in these when you shake them. Mine does a bit. Can’t tell if noise is still there in the car as we have high winds. It sounds like it may still be there. Tomorrow will tell for sure.
Ok. Belt came off today. The results were mixed. The ps pulley had a little bit of play but may be normal. No noises. The ac pulley a little bit more play but not much more. No noises. The others felt fine. The new idler pulley the dealer put on felt like glass. The other one felt gravely and made a little noise when turning. Could it be this pulley. Weird thing is: the noise is more noticeable in gear and absent out of gear. Would this make sense? I guess my plan is to replace other idler pulley. The clutch on eBay was for a v6. I did find an entire used compressor for 50.00. I think replacing other pulley 1st is the way to go then if that is not it go to the ac pulley. Oh by the way. No belt and the noise went away with engine on: both in and out of gear. Any other suggestions?
Re: eBay clutch Nice find if it ends up being the ac. Thanks.
Yes I sure will. Thanks for the heads up. I will posy findings later this week.
Was messing around with it today and noise seems to get louder when ac is running. I’m going to get two sets of eyes on it later in the week just to be 100 percent sure. On newer cars it appears they won’t just sell you the clutch and pulley so if it is the compressor looks like I will be swapping the whole thing out. Anyone tell me how difficult this will be.
Let me know if you guys can hear the noise. May not come across in the video.
I just watched a video by Eric replaced the pulley not the entire compressor. Once I narrow it down I will post. Got to be a bearing just starting to go.
The shop did the idler pulley bearing. It was not the culprit. I don’t trust them anymore . They have misdiagnosed it twice.
I have a new belt. Need to replace it anyway. I will get do this tomorrow.
Well I crawled under the car and checked the heat shields and mounts as best I could. I think all is ok on this end. All exhaust hangers are good too. I think it is coming from the A/C compressor area.
The last couple of times when I started it in the cold I have been getting a high pitch whine/shriek immediately when I turn the key. Lasts for only 1 second. It has gone away since the weather has turned warm.
Could all this be related. Could it be a compressor bearing? The low grade rattle vibe seems to be coming from this area. Not sure 100 percent though. I took some video and will post if it is audible in the video.
Will do
I am off Thursday and Friday I wI’ll check the trans mount and rear engine mount while I’m under there. Will post the results of the goose chase then. Thanks for the feedback.
