i added a pic of that broken tube, its kinda tiny, (the grey 1) the power steering pumps bottom bolt will not come out because the motor mount sits like 1/2 inch from the pulley (just the bottom bolt has this issue, i cant even loosen it all the way and ive exhausted my resources, deep well socket and shallow socket with a u-joint. if i take 1 motor mount off will the engine drop? thats what im afraid of. as for the pushrods i will be poking them trough holes in a box, 1 side at a time to keep them in order

I am now demoralized, working on taking the car apart ive run into many issues,

a little line on the plenum just behind the throttle assembly (light blue?) snapped as i took it off its nipple the tube runs back into a wiring harness, what does it go to/how do i fix it?

do i really need to take the power steering pump off? i cant get it off without taking apart a motor mount witch tbh scares the hell out of me to drop the motor, will it drop if i undo a motor mount?

any help will be greatly appreciated… thanks

Ok so the wife and i have decided that i am going to do the job myself.

I need to pick up a few tools from harbor freight including a torque wrench…. here is a question or 2 that i have about the torquing..

Im looking at this website http://www.torkspec.com/torkspecme.aspx?KI=12-3.1L-191ci-V6 My engine is the 3100 Sfi v6, is it the same? i dont understand the extra numbers and letters between the 3.1l and the V6

am i going to far looking at the torque for the power steering pump bolts and the thermostat housing + other parts that i donot see people in the videos mentioning a torque spec for or using a torque wrench on.

does the 14ft-lbs +30deg have to be perfect? as in should i try an line up with a protractor?

I cannot find a torque rating of the plenum? does it go hand tight without breaking the bolts? will this crush the new gasket?

Can i use gas or mineral spirits and a clean rag to clean the surfaces where the gasket will sit? and will a credit card(library card) like plastic remove the old silicone?

to do this large of a job i intent to use lots of ziplock bags and painters tape with sharpie, and i may make a list of what im taking apart to check off as it goes back together + lots of cellphone pictures in case i have to call in a real mechanic…

i know i need to changed the oil and coolant after the fix so i am getting the tools (jackstands/filter wrench) for that job but is there anything else i am possibly missing in my search for information?

Also.. to bleed the coolant system in a car where the reservoir is pressurized, do i just run the car with the tank open and add as needed while it runs?

any help is greatly appreciated, Josh

to be blantantly honest this is 1 of thoese -is it time to say good bye – moments the garange wants more than the cars actualy value or close to it to do the repair and i still dont have a working ac… but on the other hand its currently our only mode of transportation. other than this and the ac i dont know of any other mechanical issues she has

Ive been adding the “you can mix this with anything” type for a while now, so much so that the leaks are the green color of the antifreeze i been adding. the longer this day goes on the more i think im going to have to do this myself. Had the wifes friend say “if you need work done my hubby will give you a famaly discount” now that we need something done its “boss says no side work” funny how that happens >.< Cheapest ive found to get the work done is 690 but im not sure that included changing the temperature sender and thermostat 0.o -do i have valid reason to be weary of doing this repair in my driveway?

Thanks for the info, this job kind of scares me to be honest, not the taking apart and getting it back together but the torquing and resealing of the engine… im shopping around the local garages for pricing and also looking for 1 that might let me watch… if i decide to do it and do something wrong im assuming the result is a nuclear meltdown on the side of the road?
edit- Does this job “require” an oil change and coolant change? i just changed the oil like a week ago

OK so after a few hours at the shop the lower intake manifold gasket needs changing and apparently this will fix my overheat issue and leak. they want 930 bucks to do the job so i dont know if im going to try it or if my car is getting scrapped… shitty day (parden the language)

I am actually getting my ac vacuum checked and hopefully filled today so i can check to see if the ac turns the rad fans on afterwards hopefully

So since i dont own my own stands and pressure tester and for some reason california is anti-lending of tools the car is going to a local garage for a cooling system pressure test. Ill let you know what the findings are.

I have an odd question, is it normal for the ac to be routed trough the same radiator as the cars coolant? in my car to me atleast it looks like this is the case and makes me very fearful of having to mess with the ac system to fix the cooling system if it comes to that.

it always seems to be a few inches in front of the driver side tire so pretty close to the radiator area, i cannot see anything looking down trough theres just too much in the way to see anything useful.

Im not sure if this will be of any use but the leak dose not seem to be super hot? as in the liquid dripping out didint burn me when i touched it

ive watched the video on finding leaks witch what gave me the notion that an 18psi cap might be to much pressure for the coolant system. both fans do kick on and stay on when the car warms up but i do not know about the thermostat ill look into that. im about to run to the store so ill see if i can afford/borrow some stands and a pressure tester and maybe put the 15psi cap on and see if less pressure in the system makes the leak go away

EDIT- i installed the 15psi cap (checked the owners manual and it said the cap should be 15 not 18 psi) but in the shop parking lot more leaking.
im trying to get everything in order to go under the car and look for the leak but that will take some time.
