      1. Does it vibrate with the clutch depressed?
-> Yes, the vibration is present weather or not the clutch is depressed or not. It is also present weather or not the car is in gear, in motion, or stationary The clutch and flywheel were not replaced while the engine was out.

      2. Was the engine pulled out of the car for the ring repair?
-> Yes, the rings were replaced due to excessive oil consumption. The cylinders were not machined but the valves were ground and adjusted as well as the timing chain and tensioner being replaced.

      3. Are the motor mounts all in place and providing isolation between the engine and frame?
-> All engine mounts appear to be in place. However, they may not be providing adequate isolation from the engine and the frame (vibration in cabin). Is there a way I could narrow it down to a specific engine mount? Is there a known engine mount to cause vibrations issues in this model of car?

      4. Pull the accessory belt off momentarily to see if the vibration is internal to the engine for sure.
-> I will check this as soon as I get time to work on the car.

      5. Are all the exhaust and tail pipe hangers in place and providing isolation?
-> All exhaust system hangers appear to be in place and providing adequate isolation.

      6. Are any of the exhaust system parts touching the body/frame?
-> I can’t exactly be 100% certain if the exhaust is touching the body/frame anywhere until I get under the car and check.. It’s uninsured and parked in a remote garage for the time being (trying to save money on repairs and insurance b/c I’m a university student).

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll look into them as soon as I can!

I changed the oil last month and in doing so I also sea-foamed the engine and switched to synthetic. The CEL was on for a couple of hours after I sea-foamed the engine but I shut itself off after.

I actually inflated the tires a couple psi over what they are supposed to be.

I just calculated that I am averaging 17 mpg in mostly city driving. Which is extremely disappointing coming out of a 4cyl car. I drive very consciously and always feather the throttle. I also drive an 06′ Honda Odyssey that gets 20 mpg in the same style and type of driving. What the heck? The car doesn’t have any check engine lights and just last week I seafoamed the engine and switched to synthetic, changed the air filter and spark plugs as well as clean the throttle body! The car purrs like a kitten but drinks gas like a friggen SUV. Errrghhhh

The fuel pump is good as there is a humming sound when i turn the key to the on position. Fuel pressure is also good. How do I check for spark if I don’t have one of those special tools that was featured in your video?

I actually poked around craigslist funny enough, looking for a Lanos but there were hardly any ads on craigslist and most of them were Daewoo station wagons. I wanted to see how much they were worth because I just finished watching Pineapple Express and I had an interest for them. If one pops up in the market anytime soon, I might take a look. Reviews say that they are dependable cars as well. The reason I want to stick with a Honda is because I’ve had good experiences with them in the past and my family has not bought anything else. My uncle has a ’95 Accord and he has racked up 600,000 plus miles on it and it still runs like new. He only had to do oil changes and regular maintenance items. But I’ll be more open and look at different brands too!

Thanks for the test procedure roywrench22. I did the test and let it sit for about half a day but there was no separation.

I now think that a piece of rust in the fuel tank may have partially clogged the fuel filter. At this current moment in time, the van will start but with a rough idle, and when I put it from neutral into drive (its an automatic) the van stalls. So after starting it again, I rev the rpms to keep it going and then put it into drive, and while keeping the revs with my right foot, I ease off the brakes with my left foot so I don’t go flying into the street at 3500 rpms. The funny thing is, is that I replaced the fuel filter on it not too long ago, and before then, It was driving fine. So maybe the fuel filter has a defect and that may be causing low fuel pressure output. I’m going to replace the fuel filter this weekend and we’ll see how it runs from there. This is a strange ongoing situation and I hope to resolve it with a new filter. Thanks again for the comments, i’ll keep you posted on my progress.

As an aside, I saw that ’05 Acura El I was talking about earlier and it was great! The interior was mint but the exterior had a couple dents and scuff marks here and there. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The slick manual tranny was a blast to drive and the engine was surprisingly peppy too. I’m going to see it again at the end of this week and try to negotiate the price from $6700 to the lower end of the $5000 price range.
