I hadn’t seen his reply until after I responded….
Anyway…I’m going to do a compression test tomorrow. Fuel injector is good. I tested it remember?
Ok guys I have an update for you.
I have replaced coils with new ones..
I replaced my Napa spark plug wires
I’ve replaced spark plugs
I’ve tested injectors and replaced o rings….again
I have tested injector electrical system….perfectI do NOT know what is wrong with this thing…Anyone have any ideas before this begins costing me even more money than it already has?
This is a picture of cylinder 3 spark plug. This spark plug is not very old.
Attachments:So i switched around the coil packs…No difference. Did another diagnostic on it and cylinder 3 is still misfiring.
Ok Im gonna play around with it a little and see what I can make happen. Don’t have the money for new coils at the moment so it makes it a bit tricky haha
That is something I was beginning to wonder. If maybe one of my coils was beginning to go out. Im going to mess around with it and see what happens. Thank you! Any other advice in case of it not being the issue?
Awesome haha I’m glad I have a decent idea with this thing. I’m trying to NOT be that type of mechanic haha I’m semi proficient but have a LOT to learn. Thats why I consult with those who’ve forgotten more than I’ll ever know haha Thank you for your advice, I’ll let ya know how it goes. Should be doing it within the next 2 weeks or so.
I need to replace valve seals anyway lol what exactly do I need to look out for? I was gonna replace the timing chain on the front of the engine?? (has 326k on it figure it be a good idea lol)
Thank you Eric! I was personally beginning to think a 4 speed would be good in this truck. It already gets fantastic fuel efficiency in comparison to my past GM trucks (4.3L vs 5.7L I’d sure the Hell hope so! lol) but something tells me that…There could just be better lol
I know simple things like filters, plugs, tires, etc. make a difference too. But having a tranny meant for fuel economy would make it even better! I spoke to my lady (since the truck is probably going to her once she’s driving) about the difference in driving it between the manual and auto and I think auto may just be the way to go. 1. Like you said, its already set up for one and 2. its safer and more stable that way especially for a new driver. I don’t want her dropping the clutch and that thing spinning out or something lol
I appreciate your help. Very knowledgeable and make amazing tutorials! Really helps someone learning like myself.
Thank you Eric! (kinda glad you replied lol) I ended up forgetting about the wheel bearing like you said. I took the wheels off (Didn’t take the brakes apart due to my tools being at my brother’s since my move) but from what I could tell? The passenger front brake has a rotor that seems uneven on 1 or 2 spots. Even compared to the driver side (which completely flat as far as my hand could tell). I’m on a budget so I can’t be replacing anything until I know EXACTLY what is going on lol
At the time being, I’m focusing on the brakes (and of course my tie rod I know is bad on the driver’s side) I’ll post more once I have the money to replace all of those.
Awesome thank you! I’ll look into that. My tools are at my brother’s and he’s gone for the weekend so I’m needing to be patient haha
I’m ultimately replacing everything but I’m going to need to be on a budget for a few months so just trying to hold it over.
Hi, thank you for responding. I DO notice the noise at a low speed as well as normal cruising speed and sometimes even at 50mph. I’ll try to look out for an underground parking lot or car parking structure to test it. I live in the desert so I don’t even know where to begin looking for something like that lol I’m really hoping its the brake pads. I was wondering if it MIGHT be that noise.
I can rebuild a brake caliper?? I’m curious of how I can go about doing that??
I am certainly not opposed to putting a 3 or 4 spd stick in there even though it’ll require some cutting and drilling and installing of pedals and all lol Do you really think it would mount right up to my bell housing? Also, say I wanted to convert it to a manual. What all would I need to swap over besides the clutch, pedal assembly, linkage and tranny??
Is there maybe a more modern version of my transmission that is most fuel efficient? Its already a light duty truck so it being a speed machine or toy hauler isn’t highest priority.
Hmm…so there is a SLIGHT chance that it could simply be the wheel bearing and not the brakes that are bad? Or if one is bad does that kind of insist that the other is bad?
What are some ways I can diagnose it for sure? I’m on a budget, I need to replace things in increments and what is the most broken first lol
WOW!!! Thank you. That was helpful and went right there along with what I was wondering. I recall the old Distributor rotor even being slightly shorter than the new one I put on it. I didnt think too much of it though since it was the recommended one for my truck. Figured it was a modernized change or something. Im going to do a little experimenting with the distributor and let you know how that goes. Thank you for the advice!
Thank you. Im going to check that. This thing is running real smooth and nice other than that slight grinding here and there. It doesn’t seem to effect the performance its just that noise. Especially since it didn’t do it before the distributor rotor/cap replacement. Any other suggestions for what I should check while I’m working on it?
