I like Scotty but I definitely prefer Eric over him. Scotty makes good videos in the condensed news bite format which works for him. Scotty’s opinions I think are bit too brash in some areas. Like on oil changes 3k miles is way too much for a modern engine and its harsh on the environment to. He is also bit too opinionated on German/English cars in general. They are just as good as the Koreans,Japanese,Americans make. Yes parts are more expensive on them but I have found in general the way they are built makes up for the parts price. They tend to use more assemblies then just specific parts.

Another one of my favorite lines people like to use is “I have this friend that does it will do it for this such and such or say such and such” I always reply saying, “why don’t go to them instead?”
I have had that too. One of my Pet-Peeves is when a friend or aquaintence asks me to fix their computer and they either cant even tell me what the problem is (As most of the time i can tell right away what the problems is) or they tell me what’s wrong with it and I tell them the possible causes or fixes just for them to either have someone else fix it or just get a new computer. I myself have not bought a new computer since 2006. The computers I use are all old and second hand systems. The newest computer i have is a 2008 DELL laptop. I just guess my views on technoligy are different. I am the kind that “If it works I’ll use it” rather than the kind that needs all the latest and greatest. I have more important things to spend my money on.
Yep same here being an tech. The worst part of it when they intentionally are being vague. Though 95% of the time we as techs know its adware, malware, etc etc and other 5% is hardware on the verge of dieing or they just dont have enough PC for the tasks at hand.

I havent bought myself a system since 2003 when i got out of high school. I tend to find derelict old PC’s and restore em to working order. Like this one i own now isnt a slouch it was my friends custom built. He gave it to me since he was moving overseas. I also tend to upgrade existing systems before i move on.
Thanks for the Advice Jinzo, I’ll make sure the follow that next time i am asked to fix a friend’s computer. I gotta make money somehow charging labor is something i should start doing to friends. Maybe even discounted labor depending on how good of a friend they are.
No problem, I’ve just always been one to make sure my backside is covered. Especially with PC’s people love to take advantage of anyone with any a spec of tech knowledge. I know this from experience myself. I’ve also seen people get mad cause I will not cut them a break even though I did. I’ve seen some techs charge 40 50 bucks just to have the thing diagnosed.

In that low of temps and conditions I’ve always seen cars get temperamental about starting. Getting a block heater just depends on where the car is stored when not in use garage no outside yes.. Fully synthetic oil can only help so much. Especially if a car is stored outside cause eventually the laws of thermodynamics do take over.

I’ve seen blocks crack before while trying to start at low temps. My 1985 Nova went down and out cause of this.

I’m not a service technician but I am former IT professional and current eletronics hobbyist.

What Summer_Night said is 100% true and i would also like to add some more to what they said. These are surface mount components and when you remove the resistors to reapply or fix them make sure when you wick up the old solder not to damage the solder pads.
