Well I have to say that the care really is what matters, key word is taking CARE of you car or truck, domestic or import, my truck s (the F150 that I had [sold that and upgraded] had a little under 230k on it and would have kept going well into 500k mileage wise im sure, yes I knew the entire service history of the truck, my current truck (ex work truck that still gets worked) looks like cr@p as far as the bed is concerned, you can see its been hauling heavy loads its entire life but it has 440,986 on it and the only thing I have had go bad on it is a transmission main pump seal. so that alone should speak volumes to what taking care of your car or truck is able to do. LAST thats what…yes I had to farm the work out to a shop as I do not have a house with a large enough garage to install a 2 post lift (wish I did) but while I had the transmission out even though I didn’t need to I replaced other seals and gaskets like the rear main seal as preventive maintenance.
how did I get so many miles on this truck and transmission (all factory original parts aside from the usual maintenance items like the fluids and the replaced seals), simple one word care, I take care of my trucks and my Mustang, granted the Mustang has only 77K on it and lives in a garage but I still take it for regular services when required.
The biggest thing that annoys me is cell phone use while driving, it distracts people from what they should be doing..driving!
Also, people who don’t use their directionals irritate me.
Other than that, people tend to avoid my truck on the road, no one has ever dared to tailgate or cut off a 1970s monster of a pickup truck.
There are people who purposely get close to me just to gawk at it or give me a thumbs up/wave but that’s it. I guess big old truck=intimidating to most people.
well its that all American steel box they know will trash there car if they tried something stupid like that, I drive a Ford F150 that sitts up high (factory stock suspension) and the bumper which is steel sits up to where the hood/bonnet of most cars would wind up under it most times…
as for the irritating drivers I try not to let them irritate me but if they are dumb enough to do something well…..dumb I let them know by use of the horn…oh and for cellphone users if there window is down I make sure to be rude by hitting the horn, and if they fuss at me for that I make sure to politely remind them of our states cell phone ban,,,
usually if I know im going to have a period of waiting (IT here as well) I will try and plan things accordingly to maximize the waiting time, like if I know a specific task will take an hour and its the longest task to doI will plan that so when I hit that part I can either take a lunch break for that time or have other tasks already in process while I wait for it to finish
honestly its as far as I can tell a gimick, it may work for a short term but the noise is there for a reason, its means something is not proper with the car adn you should check it out and fix it…
Rich people…where to start….well in a sense I am one of those “rich” people, rich with both money and kindness, granted we have two volvos and Ford truck and Mustang, and even had a Jaguar and a Roles Royce, but personally I am the type of person who you would find driving a avrage mans truck (The Ford F150) and most people when they figure out the fact im “rich” look at me with suprise and usually ask “why arn’t you driving a Jaguar or something like that if you have the money…” usually to that I prefer to answer honestly with “I like to help others so therefore I try to donate when I can to others and orginizations that help others. Money isn’t what makes me happy, its the ability to help others and fix cars and trucks and just make others feel better by helping them when I have the abilities to do so!! So not all Rich people are your “usual snob”!! I believe Eric managed to hit on that as well!!
My truck (in avitar) that is pictured while to most people (friends included) is “old” to me its still new, I would have gone with a 1978 or older truck but sadly all the ones I liked either had too much rust on them or were so clapped out…so I found this truck and to me its just old enough to have the mechanical stuff the way I want and give that “old feel” of the road and if it wants to act up it lets you know.
I have a 2004 Mustang also and it still has some mechanical items in it (and it also still feels responsive and modern also) but the truck is from 1995 and is the newest truck I plan on owning…why? well most of the work I so is PM and I try to take care of my cars and trucks and the truck has never let me down even though she wants to act up a lot she still gets me where I want to go with out question, may have to fight and argue and shout a bit but we usually make up and have fun getting to where we need to go.
I personally feel any thing from the 90’s or before is just right for me, remember the term “old” is relative as is time to the beholder…to me its what will get me there and back and if it fails is quick to fix with out needing a mechanic in my pocket…yes Ford trucks have always been a favorite and while my Chevy friends (both new trucks and older trucks then mine) give me hell for owning a Fix or Repair Daily truck its the fact that IF I wanted to I could have the engine out of this truck and swapped with a new one in very little time at the garage if I wanted and its simple and easy to find parts for as the 302 is used in numerous Fords cars and trucks so parts are still plentiful for it!! even mustangs use the 302 😉 that is why I love the “old”/”new” truck and its the truck I saved up for and purchased with my own money also…

my Mustang is a standard trans so it really keeps me busy anyways. so the way I look at other drivers is I automatically assume all other drivers are destracted and are not paying any attention to anything unless proven otherwise.

I just bought a Matco distributor wrench off of Ebay. I got a better deal used than SO, and its not like its a high torque piece. Anyway, So still sells the same type of wrench, for more of course, here is one funny thing I did notice however. When I went back to price that Matco wrench new, they no longer sell it. What they have for a distributor wrench is the pile of doo that every other chain store has, which for my application does not work. Mac has the nice type as SO, but they are crazy expensive. I best most young techs today don’t even own distributor wrenches which is some cases are the ONLY thing that fits, unless of course somebody makes a tool from other pieces which is worse than having DongGongWang built tools.
I’ve got the MAC distributor wrench. It is quite nice. Most of the younger guys don’t have them for sure.
I actually want to chime in, im not sure about the ‘ÿoung guys” in your shops or what not, but im only 27 and just started really wrenching on cars in general, and i have two distributor wrenches, why? simple I wrench on my cars and the 1995 F150 I have has a distributer in it and I will be hosed if I didn’t have the basic tools I need to fix my own truck…
as for the elitest crap, thats all it is is just pure unalterated BS, I have tools from when my grandpa (we call him Opa which is german) and all his tools came from WW2 and yes I get raged on by my friends who work for shops when they come over to get my help on there cars (one drives a 1960’s Ford mustang and the other IIRC drives another Ford I want to say its a Fairmont or something similar) and why do they ask for my help? because they know I can turn a wrench like no other (as they say) and can “solve issues very quickly with minimal fuss” but they always rag on my WW2 tools, but i look at them and say “they may be WW2 era tools that my Opa gave me BUT I would like to see you turn a wrench like me and fix your cars with a minimal amount of tools” I have maybe a total of 200 tools total (counting the tool kits that I got as christmas gifts and Bday gifts but I always go back to the WW2 era tools, why do I do this? simple they work, and I got them for the best price FREE yes I didn’t pay for them….and I still have some of what I feel are the BEST tools I could have.
remember the brand doesnt make the tool, its the quality that makes the brand, as long as the tool is a good quality and does what I need then that brand will earn MY money.
thanks, I hope to learn some tricks like the water decarbination trick for use on EFI engines!!
I to would be interested in a video like this, but I am sure some expence would be required and some of the “fram death can” verses other oil filters has also been dome and kinda beaten to death in some respects.
Hey everyone, been watching this video and love the tip, but I have an EFI engine and when I try this (actually before I can even open the intake tube the car will just die as if its letting air escape (or filling a vacuum) and just cust off, I have the engine up to full opperating temp (took it on a nice 30 minute drive) and as soon as I seperate the intake tube from the throttle the car just dies even if i attempt to have someone hold the car at 2,500 RPM
so what I want to know is how do I get around this?? am I not doing it properly? eric mentioned that there was (at least how it sounded) a video on this exact method involving EFI non carbourated engines. if there is such a video please could someone kindly link it for me?
the vehicle I have is a 2004 Ford Mustang V6 3.8L
Thanks for the assistance guys!
