Get to the basics, compression, timing, fuel, air and spark. If its all there it’ll run, if not, then its not all there.

Oh, and my biggest purchase of late was my new to me tripple bay Cornwell box with hutch. Would you believe its all-ready full and I’ve got 2 lockers on order from Northern Tool to put on it. Good thing I kept my old Snap On box.

About a year ago I had a late model Malibu with the 2.4 Eco tec come in with water in the oil. I was covered up so I called head gasket and sold the job with out doing a leak down test, shame on me. When I pulled the deck off I found a crack in the cylinder wall on #1. Oh crap! Now I have to call the customer back and sell and engine! Moral of he story? Always, 100% of the time, do the work!

Another trick I’ve found to work well on bleeding the air out of the little Asian cars is to raise the front end up either on ramps or using a jack. the bottom of the radiator sits so low that some times it has a hard time getting all the air out. You can by a pressure tester at Harbor Freight for around $40. I have one for home. I would’nt use it at work, I have a Mity Vac there, but for the average DIY its great.

I like my Aircat 1190 impact and my lil air cat 1/4″dr air ratchet, I make a lot of money off those two. But my favorite tool just because its cool is my Snap On bore scope. Lets see just how many bugers are up in my nose!

Check and make sure your pressure tester is sealed up good. 1/4 lb is not a whole lot to loose. What is the car doing to make you want to pressure test it?

A fuse? or a button that would keep the trunk lockedC8-)

Man it was just that the plug to the button had gotten pulled on or something at some point in time causing the female pin inside the conector to wollow out and make poor contact. I repined the conector and it worked like a champ.

I had a 93 lx convertiable 5.0 and loved it. Sold it and bought a 95 gt 5.0 and currently love it. I do want the 2011 5.0 gt. I’ve driven a few of them and hold on to your panties grandma because I wanna go fast.

Yes but the trans changed it. I did a power balance test and all came back normal. Just to be sure I put new motorcraft plugs in it and swaped the known good coils from my wrecked van to this one and still no change. I was with you originally thinking a coil pack was going down but aliminated that and I forget what it was but vacum was within specs.

I did a power balance with my scan tool, Ford gives you that option if your scanner is equiped, which my Autel Maxi Das is. Unplugging coil packs in the case would be counter productive. It does not have a hard miss, unplugging a coil would give it a hard miss. With the scan tool I can moniter it while I drive it under the condition of he problem. Also I put new plugs in it and took the known good coils from my wrecked van and swapped them, no difference. Also, as the van warms up it goes away, coils or plugs would do the oppisite. I was thinking pump pressure in the trans but that shows good to and the old van had no probs so with that trans it eliminates that.

                            have you checked fuel pressure?

                            Fuel pressure is good

Its one of those tools you don’t really need it until you have one and then you wonder how you ever lived without it. Buy it, its a priceless tool to have in your box. I have 2 just incase one goes down.

I would stress test your ignition system with a adjustable ignition tester as well as checking fuel pressure as stated above.

Hesitation issues are usually ignition related.

Do you have any options on your scan tool to look at misfire history per cylinder?

I borrowed a friend of mines IDS and programmed the TCM and the problem went away. It was a trans programming issue.

You can buy a vacum pump from Autozone, disconect all the hoses to the evap canistor one at a time and plug one end off, use your pump to pull a vacumm from the other end, it takes some time but with out a smoke machine this is a sure fire way to find the leak in the evap system. Good news, thats a fairly simple evap system.
