I do not think you would have hurt anything by what you did. If you still smell it check to make sure your e brake is off, if still after that you may have a caliper sticking somewhere. Jack the car up and see if you can turn the wheels by hand with out any brake resistence. YOur front wheels will still fill a little drag from the trans but you should be able to turn them with the car in neutral.

You can add some dye, available at most auto parts stores, and trace the leak with a uv light.

If I had to guess I’d say put a mass airflow sensor on it.

How hard is it to steer? Do you still have power assist steering? There is a restriction somewhere, most likely a bad steering gear.

I’d check your front cv axles. I would not use cheap ones. Make sure you get quality axles as these are bad for doing this on this model car.

I’d check that the mating surface is clean and rust free where the rotor seats against the hub, this can cause some lateral run out. I’d also check that the rear drums are adjusted up right. If they are not engaging full it puts more pressure on the front brakes which can cause them to warp. I have gotten warped rotors from the parts store before. You can check the l.r.o. on the rotors with a dial indicator.

Sounds like your trans is gone. If thats the case then what do you have to loose by trying a trans flush first. I would take it somewhere that can do a complete BG trans flush with a machine.

Mounts can cause a vibration, you would probably also fill a little thud when you put the car in gear. If not, you may do a compression test. You could have a carboned up valve not seating full causing a miss at idle.
