Most cars need to have the sub frame taking down when the engine is removed. Some cases the ball joints have to be removed from the wheel hub. Thrres a chance you’ll need new ones. Not typically the mechanics fault. I’ve removed tie rods and ball joints to get to other parts and had issues putting them back. They should have told you that you need new components. Looking at your picture it looks like you lost the bolt that holds the ball joint on. Maybe they forgot the cotter pin thst goes on top of the bolt as a safety. Let me know what the garage you had the car towed to says.

Sounds like your starter grinds on the flywheel. Maybe the starter is missing teeth or had some shaved down. If you can take it off and see what it looks like. Post pictures here if you aren’t sure what you’re looking at. It is really easy to take off, just remove the negative battery terminal before you start removing the starter.
