Okay, gotta love a mystery. Today it fired right up and holds idle. Idles kinda high but at least it doesn’t die. I messed around with the AC some as College Man mentioned that, but I don’t know if that had anything to do with it. What is the relationship between the two, College Man? Air in the coolant or something? I’m going to clean the throttle body just to see if that helps. Also, today, the brake light is staying on without the brake on…not sure if there is an electronic relationship there or not…I know if you ignore a check engine light long enough other lights will come on. ..but no check engine light. Thanks for the tips guys….best regards 🙂

Haven’t tried. It starts up perfectly and runs smoothly as long as you’re holding the gas. Let off the gas, the tak will go to 0 and it will die immediately. No check engine lights. There was something about pending misfires on the OBD.
Every youtube video I’ve seen so far talks of cleaning the throttle body and idle control sensor, but to me, it isn’t behaving like something is goo’ed up and making it run rough. It just won’t hold the idle. I’ll try letting it warm up and see if that affects anything.

There’s a reason those used beemers are so cheap. But most people don’t look at a vehicle as just transportation. In our culture “you are your car.” You’re saying “I’m successful. I’m fast and furious. I’m a cowboy.”
Get past all that crap and its not hard to come up with good, economical transportation. A luxury car to me gets me from point A to point B cost effectively without any troubles. Starts every morning. Doesn’t drink a lot of gas, cost me a fortune in insurance and monthly payment. Believe me, thats a luxury.
But who can resist? Literally back in High School girls would date you because of your car. Culture gets complicated, doesnn’t it?

My boo…still would be a deal killer for me on a 3k truck though. Maybe if it was something with a little better after market or you were committed to driving it until the wheels fell off.

$1800 for a used engine? Yikes, that’s half the price of what the whole truck is worth with a running engine. I didn’t know prices were so inflated up North. I see them used for $600 to $800 with something of a guarantee.
At that cost I suppose I have to start asking myself is what’s left of the vehicle worth putting a new engine in. For under a grand it would be worth it to take a chance and see how many more miles I could get out of a used engine. Over that I think I would just buy one already running and keep the other for spare parts. I would hate that kind of expense and then you have an expensive engine in a vehicle with everything else wearing out and falling apart.

yikes, for $500 bucks it seems you would have to get awefully lucky to find one that is still running after the first week. Not that it couldn’t happen but it seems anyone selling a car for the scrap price knows its going to need a couple of grand to keep it on the road. You could spend about 2k and find something thats not pretty anymore but still mechanically sound if you’re careful. But I can’t see anyone selling a car for $500 unless its pretty much given up the ghost all the way around.
But it could happen. It will just just take a lot of hunting and knowing what you’re looking at.

Hey, that was pretty cool. I feel like we had a beer and talked philosophy after work or something. I like that. You’re a thinking man. Seems most folks around me just want a paycheck and some TV. They never consider what’s possible…what its all about. Where its going. Why are ya doing it…. And to be fair those are tough questions with loose ends. But a little Zen and the Art of Automotive Maintainance is kinda groovy every now and then.
