So just a update. I did another pressure test. His lower intake gaskets are bad, I’m in the process of changing his gaskets, installing ac delete pully, new serpentine belt, new radiator. The pressure test showed 2 leaks, one at the radiator, one on the intake gasket. His spark plug wires had alot of rust on the inside, his plugs looked worn, so I am going to change those as well… just wanted to leave an update, thanks guys
To answer your question on the water pump bearing. The ones I have seen including mine the bearing locked up and would burn the belt. I have not messed with the AC compressor on this car. Sorry.
It’s cool. I just was not sure what you ment. It’s not far from locking up, but has not locked up yet.
i would think if the ac compressor was having a hard time spinning you would get
belt squeal and a burned belt.
That’s what I thought. I’ll do what you guys said and check back in.
I have a 99 monte carlo with the 3.1L I would start with the simple stuff as in the listed video in College Man’s post. If that doesn’t help. I also know these car’s water pump to have bearing lock up issues and over heat fast.
When you say bearing lock up issues. Do you mean it locks up completely? Or the bearing spins faster then the propeller?

Also he told me his AC compressor is going bad. He told me there are metal shavings all around the AC compressor and I was wondering if that could possibly somehow slow down the belt and therefore slow down the water pump. Unlikely but I’ve seen some crazy stuff LOL.

I haven’t had a chance to look at his car yet but I definitely still look at the thermostat and flush the heater core.

Also do you guys have any experience with those pulleys that bolt place in AC compressor? I think it’s called a AC delete kit.

I did a pressure test it’s holding pressure and I also started the car and the pressure stayed normal. 4 to 6 psi. I filled it up and now it is fine. I am thinking the thermostat keeps sticking and unsticking at times. I’ll buy the cap and a thermostat and change it this weekend and check back in. I’ll also flush the heater core as well. Thanks

I know sometimes my rear drum brakes squeak when I first drive on a morning when the moisture is thick outside. But it goes away after the first ot 2nd stop sign.

For disk brakes it maybe dirt or some crud that is between the pad and rotor. You could slam the brakes a few times going forward and then in reverse and see if that does the trick. It could be the dust shield. If not take it back and have it checked. But I would not spray anything unless it’s brake cleaner
not sure how that would bend in. Anyone else on the vehicle?
Nope just me.

The last person to look at it was last year for state inspection.

Did you burp the air out of the coolant system?

No leaks and the smell is gone and the coolant level is holding so far. Upper hose was 194 degrees and the lower was 137. So hopefully filling the reservoir solved it? (I don’t see how ) the only other thing relating to the smell would be the oil filter cap. Maybe it was seeping oil and hitting the exhaust and when I changed the oil and retighten the filter with a new gasket sealed up the oil filter cap. I have no clue but hopefully it’s all good.

Thanks guys. I’ll check it in a few weeks to be sure.

Get me the last 8 of your vin and I will check of your car is still eligible for the special coverage on the water pump.
