Randomguy- funny you should mention that. I just logged into the forum to solicit Eric’s feedback on the Time Sert thread repair bushings. They sell kits for not only spark plugs, but also oil pans etc. According to the Honda service manual, this is the recommended fix for stripped threads. You should check them out. A little pricey, but this is a precision fit and a high quality product as far as I can tell.

Eric – your stripped oil pan video recommends a longer bolt as the only fix besides replacing the pan. I implemented your longer bolt solution two weeks ago and the result is nearly perfect. Very minor pooling on crush washer after two weeks, but I may have under torqued it for fear of stripping the remaining threads on which the longer plug is grabbing. What are your thoughts on Time Sert as a lasting solution?

Harbor Freight 6″ Bench Grinder, and used ubiquitous 20% off coupon! Runs quiet and is well balanced.

My local Honda dealer cross threaded my oil plug, which started the stripping of the first threads. I discovered this when doing the next oil change 5,000 miles after the fact. Knew it would only get worse on future oil changes, and I did not expect the dealer to own up to it. I prepared for full stripping the next oil change and my expectations were met. Luckily, I was prepared with Eric’s quick tip for using a longer 14×1.5 bolt fabricated to grab the remaining threads in the back of the hole. Unfortunately I didn’t have a cutting tool so I had to use a hacksaw to cut it down to just the right size. BRUTAL! Took me two hours, three hacksaw blades, and two sweaty shirt changes to cut through the stainless bolt. Fine-tuned the fit on bench grinder just like Eric, installed a new crush washer, and installed ever so carefully! No leaks so far. Eric once again saved me a ton of money and in his vid gave me the confidence to tackle the job. Thanks ETCG!!

Completed the procedure this morning with complete success. I pinched the brake hose as in Eric’s vid and it worked like a charm. Eric’s procedure was spot on – from the silicone paste for the pins and piston boot to the pry bar for working the caliper off – all worked to perfection. Can’t thank you enough Eric! Feels like a million bucks when you save $100 on a job like this. Gave me the knowledge and confidence I needed.

Was worried I would let air into the system when opening up the bleeder and just kept repeating to myself what you said in the vid… “If you need to bleed the brakes, then just bleed the brakes – no big deal” – literally singing your praises to the wife and kids afterward. Sincerely

The ETCG video on brakes includes a procedure for pinching the brake line with vise grips. Is that not necessary? Sorry – this is my first attempt at changing brakes and don’t want to cause myself any unnecessary complications or headaches. Thanks
