Ive never used one when doing struts before.

Now that you mention it, its probably alot easier.

Same as above, id go for the larger ft lb or you may end up with something stuck that its too weak to loosen.

struts the same on both sides and springs? is a strut stuck?

Or do you mean you can push the car down and it comes up and stops and you cant get it to bounce? but the other side bounces?

        Someone hit a curb recent?

Is it a hollow scraping like a thick tin can or a scraping like 2 large pieces of metal grating against eachother?

I dont think the joint is causing the noise.

Using a suitable socket, rotate the crankshaft pully clockwise two complete turns. (The transmission should be in neutral for this.) Continue rotating until the “E” mark on the left camshaft pulley lines up with the “E” mark engraved on the cam dust cover and the “I” mark on the right camshaft pulley lines up with the “I” mark on the head. (you may not have an I and I but you get the idea)

I think you just line them up and put it back on, if they both dont line up you probably need more help πŸ™‚

Not sure if itll work but its worked on most of the cars Ive owned. Quick and easy.

Its the paperclip method to pull up your CEL codes. (so you dont need a scanner or to go to a store)

                http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_i_check_grand_am_check_engine_codes

                “Paper-clip method:
Install a jumper wire or paper clip between the last and second to last terminals from the left on the top row of the ALDL connector with ignition turned on. These are the first and second terminals from the right side of the top row of the connector. The check engine light will flash codes. The first code flashed will be 12 indicated by flash (1) pause flash flash (2) pause. Codes will be flashed twice before moving on to the next code. After all codes are flashed, code 12 will repeat. Three consecutive 12s indicate no codes.

Some older models do not flash 12 if there are codes present. “

Most are going to suggest getting the check engine light codes and report back πŸ™‚

Gives us all somewhere to start off.

Bad idle I would think vacuum leak, o2 sensors or something to that nature. Could be a million things.

                    *edit*
forgot to add, to get the code checked free autozone, napa or a similar parts store. If you look online or call local auto repair shops most of them will do a simple code read for free as well. (Chances are good the mechanic will suggest whats wrong when he checks so you may get the repair done there)

For some reason I cant see videos linked in forums here πŸ™

                            CV joints?

Does it happen in turns as well?

I am sure someone else will chime in with better input, wish I could see the videos! No clue why they dont work for me.

Going to order the hubs with bearings if I can find it online. An extra 10 dollars or so is all I see it being charged which isnt much at all. Saves some time and effort even though id still like to do them myself.

May be moot either way my dad does have a puller not sure if it was a tamer or shark he may have both.

Thanks again πŸ™‚ Looking forward to getting that grinding gone!
