I have the same problem with my Civic 98 1.3L Automatic transimission, the CEL is on, and the idle is rough at park, when put on drive, I have the same surge when applying the gas, I’m doing the same thing , reapplying the gas to accelerate the car. I’m not car smart, so I’m going to see a mechanic.
