Did you have a tester on it to check for error codes ?
Oh well, please move this to the Tool section. I goofed…. 🙁
Put shortly, I came here for the repairs.
There are a plethora of build shows out there…. but not that many, that makes actual repairs and how-tos. Most on Youtube attempting to show a repair are just hacks.
Throw in an occasional build like the Fairmont project for variety, but don´t make it into a build show.
I really do appreciate all the recommandations here. Thx guys !
I also found out, that nobody real seems to sell any of the brands mentioned save for Snap-On.
I can find them all on Ebay, but all resellers seems to be in the US so import tax and what-not is making them all around 50% more expensive compared to your pricetags. Life sucks 🙁
I may have to contact the various companies and see if I can find someone in the EU who retails them. Sigh….Good luck to you finding the culprit.
Please let us know once you find it. I´m curious 🙂
NIghthawk, just because it´s shiny doesn´t mean it´s well taken care of. And just because it´s faded, it doesn´t mean that it isn´t well maintained mechanically. As a tech, it´s easy to see if the car is loved or not. We get to se everything under the car, under the hood, the state of the oil and so on.
My car needs a bit rust repaired as well as a full respray, but mechanically it is spotless. Just like you, I just don´t have the hondos right now That doesn´t mean that my car isn´t loved nor taken care of.
If you lift the front wheels off the ground, put the car in gear and make it run, can you then hear it ?
I had a driveshaft knuckle “lock” up on me once and it was certainly easy to feel in the steering wheel.
But are the GP´s just as sturdy and durable ?
There is this odd thing called “pride”.
I try to always do my best no matter what vehicle I work on, but to be honest, a car that is just going to get flipped without the owner wanting it to be the best it can be, I´ld probably do what you did Eric. The cars we have in the family and those that my friends have, I try to pursuade the owner to fix the things that isn´t 100%. If they don´t, experience says, that it´s coming back to bite them at some point and at a much higher price tag.
I take great pride in my work and I´m probably a stickler. I also don´t change 1 caliper on a car, or 1 shock. I always change the pair when it comes to calipers and preferably all 4 when it comes to shocks. They are afterall all worn the same, and the performance should be at least the same on the same axle. I know it´s a more expensive approach but it does give you a better driving experience.
I also don´t repair brakepipes by just cutting out the bad part and putting in an extra joint that could go bad, I swap the entire pipe in its full length.Maybe I am just too detail oriented….. dunno.
Thank you Cammed 05
I´ll make sure to check out Matco (http://www.matcotools.com ) too, before making a decision 🙂
Well, I´m from Denmark and maybe the parts market is a tad different here, I dunno.
Usually, I only use the dealership as a last resort if the parts I need can´t be had elsewhere. Otherwise I try to plan ahead when doing any work on my own cars or the few people among family and friends that I help out. I go to ebay first, as it is often half the price for parts compared to any aftermarket parts store here. They are then my next choice and also if I need the parts fast.
Thx Richard…. I think 😛
Have you had a tester on it ? If there are any error codes it would be easier for us to help you. Otherwise, a tester could give you some live data that might be helpful. I think Eric mentioned in one of his videos, that idle problems often are a result of pirate air somewhere. Have you checked for it ?
Is it a diesel or gas powered ?
I´m sorry that I´m not familiar with this particular model, but I assume it´s a 4 wheel drive ?
Have you checked the driveshafts ? The outer knuckles could be the culprit if they have a “sticky” spot. It may be a a longshot, but when all else is eliminated….
Try switching the tires around or if you can, try another set of tires. Preferably of a different brand.
I don´t know what you are running, but cheaper brands tend to vary quite a bit in quality and friction, although they should be the same.
I steer clear of brans like Hankook, Bridgestone ( never had good experience with Bridgestone) and other cheaper brands. If you want to avoid any hazzle, go with Michelin, Pirelli and Continental. Maybe BF Goodrich since they are owned by Michelin, but they aren´t widely used here in Denmark.
