Sorry for the delayed response.
Trying the air ride menu selections got nothing. I found a set of Suncore conversion springs on sale (new) on their ebay store
and installed them (P.I.T.A.!!) : all the youtube vids I watched were for various years other than ’96, and showed the lower spring seat coming out easypeazy after you take out the 3 bolts: NOT on our ’96…the bolt heads are on the inside of the channel, and wouldn’t come out nowaynohow regardless of the lube and hammering I did; had to borrow a spring compressor set to get the springs in.
So now… I used some silicone sealant & screws and plugged the old rear air lines (to the now-gone vent solenoids)
but still no reaction from the compressor, and now the front driver’s bag isn’t inflating (cuss bang head cuss some more)
**A side note on the Suncore conversion kit: it arrived with a broken spring isolator which Suncore offered to replace but I found a set of Moog isolators for $10 locally the next day. My real beef with Suncore’s kit is that the upper spring perch plates have “ears” that are supposed to fit into the subframe, but they were too high; I had to grind 1/4″ off the tops before they’d seat properly and fit without rubbing on the frame. Had I tried to install them as is, the springs wouldn’t have seated right and the frame & perches would have experienced undue wear and stress.
Poorly engineered (at least, for the ’96 LincCont, I don’t know if they fit other years better)It’s stuck at a high ride height at all three corners except front driver’s side, which has vented back to normal/factory ride height.
From what I have googled, sounds like the solenoids aren’t venting, but just thought it’s weird that they all went at once (except for front driver’s side).
I don’t know diddly about computerized cars, and figured it’s probably an error code or something. All the airbags seem to be in good shape,
have been working fine until now. I’m hoping we can simply replace the solenoids (can’t afford conversion kit or new air spring bags)Thanks CM
Thanks CM
Hi CM,
So an ’04 Mazda tranny would work in the Rio?
If so, what model would be a suitable donor?
Thanks
