Thank you for the replies and advice everyone. I guess that is something I am gonna have to get used to, kinda sucks though b/c I do care about the job and the quality of work I put out and it makes me feel like I’m not doing as well as I could.
They gave the job to another guy. Apparently I was suppose to get it but the writers gave to someone else any way. It was a blown fuse on a metal plate with multiple fuses built into it. Something I would’ve found had the Internet been up and running when I initially looked at it. So now the service manager wants to give me another electrical problem to try an solve.
I haven’t had the time to watch the videos yet, but have bookmarked them. The one who had time to watch them did show me quite a bit. I blew through a few Pirelli P-zero tires like they were Michelin Latitudes. The machine is almost effortless to operate.
I like the coffee thing but I am the apprentice lol.
This is an amazing concept. I hope this works out for you and the people your trying to help. 93.33 WMMR a rock station here in Philly does a program similar to this for war vets, that station might get behind something like this. They do alot of charity work. I think the parent company is greater media.
I hope Fixing it forward works out.
Glad to hear the customer may not be so bad. How is their service department messed up? Can you give me some examples?
Judging by your name your a Caddie tech right? What are some of the traps or problems you see new techs encountering?
Also, what tools would you consider most important to a new tech coming into this brand? I have the basic hand tools, a 3/8 air gun and a 1/2 air gun with impact sockets metric deep and shallow for them. I also grabbed a impact driver. I have a multimeter and intend on getting a power probe off of amazon. Anything specialized I should be expecting to have to buy?
I have alot of questions and can’t think of them all lol. Are the customers snobby?
Why can’t you attend school?
I think it comes down to the individual and the instructor. I go to night classes and have gotten a lot out of it. The theory behind how the stuff is working is useful and why you are doing what you are doing is good, it helped me with the electrical tremendiously. The text books, especially the shops books, are great.
It also shows perspective employers you are serious about the craft and are teachable if your grades are good.
There many scholarships, SEMA is running one right now, and grants. You can also get tax deductions for it. I would say if you can’t do school by any means start a job portfolio, something showing you doing backyard work correctly and include it in a resume.
I took the job, I learn quickly and want out of my current job bad enough. If flat rate hurts me that badly I’ll see if I go hourly for several months. Maybe I’ll document all my missteps as a new tech on here for people to point and laugh at
In the mean time I have to endure two more weeks as a Nabisco vender…
Congrats on the lift! I can’t wait to see what you do with it. Until school I did all my work on the ground. I couldn’t believe how nice working with it was, I figured it would be just as ball busting only stand up. You probably already have a video planned on lift safety and usage, do you have one planned on lift work flow though? That was what tripped me up at first, couldn’t just roll out from under and stand up to work up top. It would probably make for a good ETCG1 video.
Have fun and enjoy it!
There is probably a tool for syncing the cams(or cam, I dont know what your dealing with) to the crank.
Did you look up how to time the engine before you started? If you don’t need a tool all of the cam and crank gears should be marked and have something that they align with.

1 – Outter housing
2 – Mount, this is actually two pieces that are held together by screws. It broke where the screws hold it together. It holds the whole assembly to the car and the motor attaches to it.
3 – Weather seal
4 – The Motor that move the mirror.
5 – Motor mounting screws
6 – The mirror, surprisingly it didn’t break. This whole thing was held together by clips, maybe 6 or 7 in total.
Hopefull when I rewire this the motor works. If not I’ll see if I can track down just the motor.
Edit: I just realized I posted this in the wrong section,I’ll continue with how well this turns out in the proper section. I usually use Tappatalk and I don’t think that it specified what exactly this section was for.
