Okay… you’ve a whole LOT going on here that isn’t really great.
1) If the intake is from an OBD-1, then you’re guaranteeing yourself problems if the car is OBD-2.
2) You’re making performance type modifications to an engine that hasn’t been brought to a known good steady state. With sensors disconnected, the computer is going to be getting incorrect information. That will make the computer do all kinds of wild and interesting (in the bad meaning of the word).
If you want to have a chance of this running right, you need to take a step back and consider. The car is OBD-2. The engine is OBD-2. The computer is OBD-2. The intake? Better make it OBD-2 compliant as well.
I’d recommend going back over your work with a -very- fine toothed comb and bringing everything back to stock before trying to swap or upgrade anything. If you have no choice but to use the alternate engine, then you’re asking for problems.. but it MIGHT be able to be done. You might need a computer from a donor vehicle… and you’ll probably have to hack together a wiring harness to account for all the sensors.
You’ll also have to make very sure all parts (intake, exhaust, etc) are all OBD-2 compliant with all the right connections/ports for sensors.
Otherwise… I really don’t think this’ll work. You’ve got to make the mechanical match the electronics or ain’t nothin’ gonna run right.

Depends on the shop you take it to, really.
If you find a good one, a ma and pa type affair and not a chain, you could probably get it done for anywhere between 400-600 dollars.
Again, your mileage may vary.. you might be able to do better. If you’re mechanically inclined, you might be able to do it yourself!

Not likely, no. I really doubt it’s a head gasket.
It probably was like one of the things that happened to my old truck… the intake manifold gasket. Mine popped, and it peed out all the coolant inside of 10 miles.
Likely that, if you’re not mixing oil and coolant, and you’re not blowing smoke.

Stick a fork in your engine, Son… it’s done.
If it isn’t rotating via starter or by breaker bar, it’s seized up bad.
Time to find a new ride or a new engine…

That falls into the range of questions we can’t answer with any degree of certainty.
It depends on if your Grandfather kept up on the maintenance. If he changed out the transmission fluid before, then it is probably safe to do. If he did not, then it is a bit of a roll of the dice.
If you can’t find out for sure, then it’s a chance you’ll have to decide if you’re willing to take or not.
PERSONALLY, I would do it… but then THAT IS JUST ME. I would NOT do a full fluid flush and replacement, however. I WOULD do a simple drain and fill.
Your mileage may vary, and take the advice with a healthy grain of salt. We can’t make that particular decision for you.
Good luck!

That’s with an automatic trans. Manuals like yours are quite a bit different in that respects.
It’s pretty safe to swap trans fluid on a manual. Personally, I like either whatever the manual calls for, or Redline’s Shockproof. But then, the last Subie I had was a WRX, and we did a fair bit of racing in her.

Eric, I can’t claim to have been through what you have.
I know I can’t do what you do.But I have been through my own trials in life, and there’s one thing I’ve learned that I think you might need to hear.
You cannot make anyone happy unless you can make yourself happy. If you are unhappy, it comes across in everything you do.
That’s not criticism against you or anything you do, but something to keep in mind as you go forward. If you’re unhappy and not having fun making your videos, then it’ll show. Your style has changed, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing if it makes YOU happy. Be yourself, that’s all.
I’ll shut up now. But… I do hope you’re enjoying what you’re doing and that you can actually be happy doing it.

From my experience, Subaru-s get extremely cranky when their trans fluid gets too old.
Consider doing the usual flush’n’fill and see if that helps.
