” ignition timing bear inspection, also a tight or damaged intake valve” timing bear??? and intake valve… okay
” I think the bracket is useless and I can’t find replacement anywhere” http://www.rockauto.com I’ve never had a problem finding any part for any car, even strange parts. May take awhile to get them shipped, but if they have your parts, it get’s you back on the road! Good luck! 😀
Also, the perimeter of the hole blown through the air filter is a black ring. As if something back fired.
Not trying to be complicated or anything…. but let’s say…. I don’t have a gauge or any equipment at home. Are there any old school ways to check all this? Like if the Radiator Fan doesn’t work a piece of paper being sucked in is a way to tell. Are there any old ways like that? Could I take the spark plug wires off, take plugs out, connect to wires and crank the engine for a spark? On a tight budget…..
Thank you for all the advice! Four eyes are always better than two!
Before I parked the car, brakes had Maybe 500 miles on them, they are new along with the fluid, definitely doing oil and filter change, going to do the fuel with filter, and wipers, Battery… Might just service and check the power of the cells to see if they are performing. belts hoses and stuff, good idea thanks. Thinking now, I will replace my coolant, Tires, might invest in good ones, they are All brand new tires as of a week before it sat. My tires are brand new, so I might have to bite the bullet, all new again, thanks for all the advice!
Hey Eric it’s Dylan. This isn’t a car question. However, I just wanted you to know that I’ve been watching your videos for years now. Everything I use to this day and tips, I got from you! Without the knowledge I obtained from you, I would never have gotten the courage to join our Armed Forces! Thank you for your help in creating a career for me, I will always be watching your videos, Thank you 😀
This is from my experience. Raise front of the vehicle, open ps cap, have car running and turn wheel lock to lock about 40 times, 20 each side, about the speed you would turn. Turn the car off, let all the bubbles rise out of the top of the reservior, once all the bubbles have done so, fill to the full line, and repeat this procedure until no air bubbles come out, if the noise is still there, it’s probably the rack, because the pump is now bled free of air. I may be wrong, just my advice. We do this for some military trucks for diagnosis.
Hello Eric! I would like to start off my response with a HUGE Thank You. You are the reason I really got into this field of work. You make the best videos I can find on the internet, and I have watched every video you’ve ever made, I keep up every week with it. What you do for people and for YouTube, It’s frieken awesome. I will always look up to you as a mechanic, Unfortunately I am up in Fort Drum NY as a mechanic, but if I lived close, you’re the only mechanic I’d let touch my vehicle. Moving on, It gets on my nerves when some mechanics say or think they know the work, then screw something up and don’t even tell the customer. When someone brings you their car, they are trusting your work and trusting you with their life. They have to drive that car away. I won’t do something I am not confident doing. And watching your videos, has definitely made my confidence go up. There are times where someone comes to me and says a garage messed up their car, I won’t talk down on ANY Mechanic, like you said, there are numerous reasons why someone may mess up, You never know what that reason was. My friend has a honda Civic, I think 2008. She came to my car last night in a panic, the dealership screwed her trunk release up and it wouldn’t close. She was going to see family 2 hours away and already wasted 65$ on the dealer. I messed with her inside trunk lever and the trunk was able to close. She was very shocked. She is now able to go see family. I take my job very seriously with pride in what I do. I wanted to thank you for everything you do. Keep up all the work. I LOVE your videos. They have never gotten boring. And hey, if I wasn’t working for the Army as a mechanic, I would offer to work under you. Don’t let anyone say your job is not helping. You taught me about 90% of what I know today. And I am Sincerely thankful for that! Sorry for the book I wrote! Stay Dirty!
Also, your comment “It seems I’ve succeeded and then some based on your comments.” You’ve done more than succeed, and it’s more than Some, it’s too much to put into words. I will watch ETCG/ETCG1 for the rest of my life, so as long as you keep going, I will be watching!
Yes, you are correct. What you have, and what you do, is honestly not an easy task, and I take pride in your work and your efficacy to help others, you work hard, and you’re not afraid to make mistakes. It’s a huge part of life! I am extremely grateful and proud of how far you have taken your Business, and I couldn’t be more thankful of how much you’ve taught me, I mean it when I say you’re a great man, and you’re an EXCELLENT teacher! Keep up the performance! I’ve made my own personal goal in my life, that I will be able to talk to you via Phone, and eventually after my term with the Army, I will drive out to Ohio and hangout, and definitely come to the Yearly event. I would be more than Honored to pay my respects to the hard work you’ve achieved! You will have more success, I believe in you. Don’t give up, because the choice you made to become Ericthecarguy, in my opinion, is the best choice you’ve made. If I was able to work in a garage and you were my boss, I would never quit! Lol! Thanks again, Eric!
A lot of great suggestions here. I’ll only add that yes indeed if the valve is bad it can effect the idle as well as fuel economy. As pointed out it’s common to use smoke to verify it’s operation. I’ve seen posts about people making their own smoke machines. This might be something to consider as smoke machines can be pretty expensive.
Good luck and keep us posted.
What tools/equipment.. ect.. would I use to create a smoke machine? If I can create one somewhat inexpensively, I will do so. Because like I mentioned… my part is under my intake manifold, above my oil filter, and to even get my hands close to the lines I need to remove the ducting to the intake, and to get access to the bolt…. the tire is going to need removed. I’ve even tried swivel sockets… and it’s just impossible… I’m ready to take the new part to a dealer and ask them to install it and save a headache… the engineers couldn’t have found a worse spot for this thing haha
A lot of great suggestions here.
