I went to a local Technical school called rosedale technical institute. After 16 months of learning I came out with an Associates Degree, as an ASE master Tech, All my PA state inspection license plus as a PA certified repair emissions technician.

It may have been a bit expensive but in all honesty I am making it up in pay. I started working at the higher end of the pay scale.

At the school the teachers are first rate, very knowledgeable, and just really good people. Everyone at the school are there for one goal and that’s to make you one of the best technicians to enter the field.

If I was you I would at least look into your local area and see if anything like this is around, and all other options you may have. Then truthfully think about it good and hard before you make any decision. If this is something you really want then go for it.

      Good luck!

I would have to say for now it would be the U140f for Toyota and Lexus. I know its not a hard build. Maybe its that I just haven’t seen many of them.

Everything else I do from brakes to engine work and trans rebuilds I like. I even like suspension work

Youi are correct that more are going to be added. I don’t know if you have done any reading on OBDIII systems that are in the making.

But with that being said I work in an emissions state. If that MIL light is on it has to be fixed or no insepection. So even the EVAP codes need to be addressed. This is helpful as a Technicion because you get paid to fix cars.

well I would have to say whats between my ears. Without it I would be…well a vegetable!

No seriously, if it wasn’t for my brain I would be just a parts changer shot gunning parts till something stuck. Don’t make for much of a technician without it!

your are correct in saying that most codes are “emission” related. But even the codes that are say for the evap system will have an effect on the cars proformance. So yes they may be just “emission” codes but they are there for more than just emissions. As a tech you’ll see that buy fixing something emissions related will sometimes make the car run better and get better mpg. I had a costemer come in for a MIL light on and but they also said that the car was running bad no guts and crappy mileage. Fouind a leak in the EGR gasket. Sent them on there way and two weeks later they came back for an oil change. They said there car hasn’t run this good in the past 6 months. Amazing what 30mins and about a 2 dollar part did for the car.
