Had a Chevy Monte Carlo before and the pcv elbow broke, the way the car acted was identical to this truck it would idle normally but drives like crap.
Back to subject though as I said before it’s a ford and it’s gonna throw a curve ball at me and this morning it did…
Crusing on highway going 55 then I wanted to make w pass and when I press throttle half way down it misfires again and CEL starts blinking again, but ye CEL was off prior to this and it turned off after it was blinking (first time I ever seen that) anyways while I’m driving I plug in the scanner and pull out codes P0171 P0300 P0303
Well when I pulled the plug yesterday I can tell they’re originals and truck has 120k so it’s time for a replacement of the rest of the plugs but I gotta wait on that since each one is $12-15 and I need 6 and money is tight so gonna wait till next payday.
After I replace the plugs I’ll erase the code and if it gives me the P0171 again then I’ll start by cleaning the MAF and work my way down bit by bit
Well it’s not always considered cheeping out but sometimes the brand of an item sets it at a higher price than others like NGK, DENSO, Bosch, those might be considered cheaping out if say u go with a Bosch item for $32 where an identical DENSO sells for $54 there’s obviously a reason why that is
Well I’m the guy that rolls both ways on this matter, I owned one car for 12 years since new (03 Monte Carlo) bought it with less than 10 miles on it, last year I was T-boned, though prior to that it was running like a champ and had 728k on it (not a typo) I would’ve took it to a million miles but it was beyond repairable after the crash.
While I owned that Monte, I’ve bought & sold or crashed at least 20 cars. I would buy a mustang for one summer, sell it and buy a K5 blazer for winter, then sell it & buy a Camaro for summer then it’ll be a bronco for winter etc etc
I did total a Dodge Dakota RT 5.9, 91 300zx TT & a 98 Honda Prelude SH but insurance paid me out on them. I crashed the Monte maybe 100 times (that car was the worst thing ever in the snow, no ABS, no TCS and its FWD) it was a nightmare driving it in winters even with snow tires but I always fixed it myself and that car is the reason I know what I know today.
Well thank you so much for the informative response, I went about it in the following sequence:
I took out the O2 sensor, and immediately saw what happened, all the wires seemed to have been pulled off by force as in non were connected so not sure what I ran over but the 4 wires were stretched and no longer making contact.
Replaced that and deleted the codes to see what else will pop up and what will disappear, then drove it around for 10 miles, it wasn’t going into limb mode but there was an obvious misfire happening. I checked again for pending codes and it showed P0301 & P0304
I then replaced cylinder 1 & 4 spark plugs, drove it around for another 10 miles and noticed still a misfire but very vague and it wasn’t as often as before replacing the plugs. I checked again for Pending codes and P0301 & P0351 are showing, so I decided to replace the cylinder #1 coil (it’s a direct coil on system) and I cleared all codes and drove it for 48 miles this time.
It ran like new better than before this blow out, and it remained that way after the 90 minutes of driving I just did. Pulled for pending codes & there were none.
I’m not jumping in joy yet it’s a ford so I know it’s gonna throw a curve ball tomorrow.
