has the fuel filter been changed? or it could be the pump.

I have a manager that asks if the techs are you done yet every hour. One time when I first was hired, the business was busy and I was working as fast as I could without making cheesy mistakes and he was on my back. can you work faster. He said it like 5 times. I was about to say arent there any customers to write up? He thinks that every job should be done in 10min like 10min quick lane. He also thinks that if we have one ticket on the board that has been there for a min. He thinks that we are busy. Well from my understanding he is a back shop manager and he has no tech experience. Also he is a clean freak and seeing that we have a huge shop he wants to see us clean every nook and cranny. I think I do more cleaning than an actual technician job.
Dont get me wrong he is a good guy. But sometimes he pisses me off.
Thank you ETCG for letting me vent.

Today a guy comes seeing if we can diagnose a problem. He said to the service writer “My car steering wheel is shimmy-ing but I just want to find out the problem. Im not going to buy anything.” The service writer gives the work order to me and I look at the paperwork. I said, shouldn’t there be a half hour diag? Do you think I get paid just doing courtesy inspections? Even though the customer is not going to buy anything. Later, I test drive the car, pull it into the shop. lift the vehicle up and found out what was wrong. Apparently, the belt shifted on the tire. Also, the inner tie rod was wasted. Ohh well the service writer writes and estimate and wastes his and my time.

Yes that is true a charged battery is 12.6v the least amount that an engine would crank is 11.5v (Ballpark answer). Is your tempature under 32 degrees? Plus what is the age of your battery? over 5yrs, you should think of replacing if it is causing you problems.

Did the problem happen a couple months back or, did the problem just happen? Did you spill anything recently?
Seeing that your passenger seat is intermittant there could be a bad or loose connection. But, on the driver side is hard to diagnose because of you didnt give enough information.

We have customers that want everything cheap. So they just get the basic oil change. A known customer walks to the front desk to get an oil change. We take his car in and drain the oil then lower the vehicle down. The customer came over to the technician to ask some questions. While the tech was getting the oil, the customer goes in to his car and starts the car without any oil inside the engine. The tech runs over to the customer and yells STOP! WHAT ARE YOU DOING? The customer immediatly turns off the engine and gets out of the car. Then my manager walks over and says, “Can you please wait inside the waiting room while the tech finishes your oil change.”
Luckily there weren’t any obvious damages to the engine.

Whenever I lift a car, I first think of where is the best place to put the jack for the job that I am doing. If you are doing the basic oil change I would lift the car up with the sub frame. Then put the jack stands under the pinch welds. (If you have a rusty car where you cannot put the jack stands under the pinch welds. Put the stands under the lower control arm or under the sub frame.)

If you are wanting to see if you have any bad steering or suspension components, you need to be careful where you put the jack stands. If you have a Mcfearson assembly (Strut and lower control arm assembly) you can put the jack stands anywhere that is safe for the vehicle being lifted. Now if you have an SLA suspension (upper and lower control arm assembly) you HAVE TO put jack stands under the lower control arm. If you dont you cannot condemn the upper and lower ball joints because the need to have the weight of the vehicle on the joints.

Please DO NOT lift a vehicle with out jack stands. It is unsafe and it could lead to injury or even death.
