Yeah, I think people are simply asking too much. I’ve noticed trucks are pricey as well.

I sold my 98 Cummins ram for $13,000 about a year ago. I was dumbfounded I was offered that for a truck more than a decade old.

I would advice against the 2002 model, and skip that generation all together as it was unpopular.

Go with an EM1 civic, or go to the 2006 generation as parts are abundance. Literally any honda part will work between 1980 – 2000 in most Civics (until 2000).

Same everything for the most part, which is why b18 swaps are so common. K series is a little more pricey to play with

I have a 95 Civic Ex/Si coupe I’m trying to fix back up as well. Mechanically it’s fine. Needs a new brake booster I believe, clutch, and some body work.

If we’re talking America Diesels will never be the economical choice for fuel savings.

Here’s a simple math equation using a small diesel engine:

Chevy Diesel Cruze (Only comes in one trim level well equiped) 27/33/46
Price: 25,660

Chevy Cruze LTZ (Top Trim Level) 22/27/35
Price: $24,370

Price difference of:
$1,290

Florida Gasoline legally must have 10% Ethanol. Lets reduce the MPG of the non-diesel Cruze by 12%. 10% for the Ethanol and 2% for driver error. I’ll leave Diesel alone as many people state the can achieve, or beat EPA estimates for diesel vehicles.

Cruze (Petrol) Combined MPG of 24 (Rounding for simply math).
Diesel Cruze Combined MPG of 33.

Petrol Price, Florida Average – $1.88 gallon.
Diesel Price, Florida Average – $2.14 gallon.

If both people own their car for 10 years, and drive 12,000 a year.

Petrol Cruze
12,000/24 = 500 gallons of petrol x $1.88 = $940 annually x 10 years = $9400

Diesel Cruze
12,000/33 = 364 gallons of diesel x $2.14 = $779 x 10 = $7790

Fuel savings of $1610 over a 10 year life span with the Diesel. Assuming the price of Diesel/Petrol is stagnant; you own your car after 10 years, the quality of petrol doesn’t continue to degrade. Calculation were using government data, and me handicapping the petrol cruze for ethanol and driver error. The diesel numbers remained un-molested. So after 10 years you save $300 ruffly.

With these ramps (I’ve never use any) if it’s rated 3000lb can it support something like a QX56 (6000lbs) since it’s only supporting one axel.
CAFE standards have made it prohibitive. CAFE is based on wheelbase and a small pickup makes it hard to meet the standards. This is why even regular cab fullsizers are going away as well. The bigger the vehicle, the less stringent the requirement it has to meet. This is why all the small pickups that did exist, either no longer exist or have become bloated versions of their former selves such as the tacoma and the Colorado/canyon(was the S10/sonoma/jimmy). All the while the Dakota and ranger have ceased to exist. The ranger does exist in Australia so I’m told, but it is nothing like it was. CAFE encourages model bloating. We will never see a Honda accord/civic like the 90s ones again, nor will we see a midsize pickup as they were with these regs in place, perhaps they will get repealed or at least partially lessened.
You can actually buy a Ranger in Mexico. I’ve seen a few in Southern Texas – Brownsville area. I believe. Also, CAFE can be beaten by other manufactures buying zero-emission credits, though only the larger manufactures would be able to afford that and i’m sure it would be counter productive in terms of profits if they truly wanted to bring a true “small” pick up truck to America that meets safety standards.

Tesla is infamous for selling their credits to the Detroit trio.

I would say for the following reasons:

1) No one buys them
2) Generally have identical gas mileage to their full size counterparts.

Vehicles in general have become larger. I know I watched a program showing how manufactures find back door ways to meet safety standards as they become harder and harder year after year.

For example,
Unless you’re a good sized man you can no longer put your arm above the door in most vehicles. Car manufactures have raised the door panel higher to provide more side impact protection along with air bags.

^This can’t be done for most people anymore in modern vehicles.

Cars are safer, and to continue being safer manufactures are using size since in America we’re generally not penalized for the size of our vehicles in comparison to other countries.

Vietnam Veterans personally I feel deserve everyone respect, or at least sympathy. Not only did they lose the “war”, but many were given other forms of discharge than dishonorable. In many States anything besides honorable prevents you from any form of government aid, government jobs, or private sector jobs that receive financial aid from the state or federal government. So after the war they had to live life with no benefits for their efforts, or help from government if say they lost their job due to Veteran discrimination in 70s/80s.

Shit, I’m not even 30 and I couldn’t receive my diploma and degrees until the State of Florida verified with the University that I signed my selective service paperwork. I had to sign it at 16, which is pretty funny because technically it shouldn’t penalize me until 18.

Now why a guy with a disability cannot drive a Camaro I will never understand. I am a big kid, 6-3 and the big doors do make it easier for me to enter and exit the vehicle. Oh, and it looks good, handles great, and I love fast cars.
Maybe I worded myself wrong. It’s just most people who are wheelchair bound realistically are going to have a tough time using something like a super low sport coupe as their daily driver, and for this gentlemen show signs of server muscle atrophy. I’m simply dumbfounded that he’s found a way to make such an inconvenient car work for him daily. I mean I have nothing hindering me, but Jesus Christ getting in and out of a camaro is no easy task 😛

To be honest I think it’s a form of American propaganda. We have to be nice to our Veteran after Vietnam, and 9/11. Though I disagree. How do I know you didn’t commit a war crime? Discharged dishonorably? Run from the draft? Refused to sign your selective service paperwork?

My brother is a retired Sergeant Major, and we had a similar to discussion about fellow soldiers trying to use the “Veteran Card”; I once told some kid who made a smart remark to me at a Publix entrance that ‘he fought for me freedoms’, and I said “not sure why you were shot, but the last person to fight for my freedom was a WW2 Veteran”.

I’m also not a fan of people belittling others. For example, I recently bought a new car nothing fancy a Nissan Versa Sedan, but when I was car shopping I was given night and day treatment when I drove to some dealers in my 23 year old Honda Civic VS my former Cadillac Escalade.

I guess because I try not to live above my means I’m punished socially. Funny.

I think this is more to do with ECU manipulation, and personally can see why the manufacture and Government would be in favor of denying access to “repairs/modifications”. Manipulating ECU settings could make cars fail state/federal emission standards in states that simply don’t enforce EPA emission, or increase power for which the chassis isn’t rated for leading to an unsafe vehicle being sold second hand, and here comes the class action law suits to the Detroit three. For example, all those lifted 4×4 pick up trucks in the south shooting black smoke are obviously committing felonies in the eyes of the EPA.

This may just be a debate on legal talk as I’m sure I read a similar article, though it was discussing the user interfaces used in info-tainment systems. I see nothing wrong with manufactures wanting to protect their intellectual property from modifications/repairs meaning “changes”.

The cost difference has no real world bearing. There’s no reason why Shell’/Exxon charges .50, .60, or x-amount more for higher octane gasoline. It’s simply the consumer paying for excess additives; “Excess” meaning all gasoline has to have particular additives within the United States to be sold legally at the federal level. I’m sure various states add onto that list.

Octane boosters from my personal experience are simply a waste of money. They’re all usually alcohol based so no damage can be done to your engine in the real world. Also, what state do you live in? Are you in a state similar to Florida, which requires 10% ethanol to be used legally in all non-recreational vehicles (Boats, Classic cars, motorcycles etc… can only use pure gasoline legally).

If you do any amount of octane manipulation you try will simply be voided due to the corn alcohol being less energy efficient. I’d also assume Honda wouldn’t require 93 in your car (Anything above 91 is rare in most states) the ECU should be able to adjust timing to run efficiently with 87.

It’s rusty as hell, but it rolls and it’s a piece of steel so can’t complain 🙂
