All right, to answer a few questions: it only does it during somewhat hot days, like 70 and above, and I don’t think it has ever happened in the winter. While I can’t say I’ve ever done a tune on it myself, it only has 87000 miles on it, and the throttle body doesn’t look disgusting (though I will be cleaning it ) and it the throttle cables arnt stretched at all. The car was garaged by the previous owner, and I’ve only just started using it as a daily driver (last year). Only one problem with a bad wiring harness. Other than that, it been peaches and rainbows.

Thanks for all the replies and considerations. After thinking things over, and doing some research, the only thing that would truly make any difference is… a new engine. The Essex is literally a piece of $$$$. My grandparents are moving to Arizona soon, and I’ll be helping them, and most likely buying a car thats outside the rust belt. Hopefully a 70s camaro. Thanks guys! For now I’ll probably just put a better filter on it, and maybe a glasspack so it sounds like it has balls haha

Also, from things I have read, I think I will just be swapping the top part of the manifold. The plenum if I am correct? Does anyone have the specifications for the Lincoln manifold? I can find the tbirds in just a bit

It has port injection. For reference, the engine is a 3.8 litre essex v6, used in all of that eras v6 applications for ford, lincoln, and the mercury cougar.

You may well be correct, as I have not looked up the specifications yet, but they should be the same design. I’m looking at the Lincoln continental 3.8 litre high output engine right now. The upper manifold seems the most restriction thoigh, and that should be a 1 to 1 swap from what I can tell. Again, I may be very very wrong without looking up the exact specifications.

I was planning on coupling this with a piggyback chip, to increase fuel percentage. Looking at the jet phase 2 chip for the sc. Perhaps this would make it less likely to be a loss overall? I was also considering just the phase 1 chip, and a new larger filter, possibly also high flow cats sense I no longer need to pass émissions. Think I could get a few ponies out of that?

Jeez I’ve embarrassed my self… this is the list of the cars with the same engine…
                              1982 Ford Granada

1982–1997 Ford Thunderbird and Mercury Cougar
                              1982–1986, 1994–2004 Ford Mustang
                              1982–1986 Mercury Capri

Got confused with the mercury capri…
Any suggestions as to which to take the donor parts? I’m guessing the mustangs would be a start

Thanks for the tips. Was planning on swapping the manifold, as that’s rather easy from what I’ve seen, and as far as donor parts, I could pull them from a caprice classic, or cougar. As for swapping the camshaft, that would take at least a weekend, and quite a bit of $$$… anyone know if the cam in the old police caprice classics were any good? That might help
