Adding 3/4 qt every 2k miles is not a big deal. Top off the oil and keep driving. There are a lot of people out there who have to add much more oil more often than that.
Or does the company make it so the cars break and you need to bring them to the dealer often so they make money.

NO! I hear this all the time and it blows my mind that anyone thinks an automaker would WANT their cars to break. Take your friend’s example:
A friend of a friend of a friend owned a Land Rover LR4 for 1 year and it was always at the dealership for repairs (it was brand new) and she finally decided to get rid of it after only a year of owning it.
So she got rid of it after a year. What car did she replace it with? Another Land Rover? Or did she swear off Land Rovers forever after that bad experience? I’m going to guess the latter. Yeah, that sounds like a great marketing strategy, all right.
GM had a reputation of building unreliable junk and they went into bankruptcy. Toyota had a reputation of building reliable long-lasting cars and they became the biggest automaker in the world. It’s about market share, not selling the same piece of crap to the same person year after year.

I always pre-fill mine. Not absolutely necessary, most oil change shops don’t do it and everyone’s engine seems to last just fine without pre-filling. But, it certainly can’t hurt and will only help, so I do it. Even on filters that mount horizontally, I fill about halfway and don’t spill a drop.

Looking at the video again, I think it might actually be 2 codes: Code 41 and code 6.

Code 41 is o2 sensor heater which would not cause these symptoms. I believe this code is set because I was working on the exhaust this weekend, and I started the car for a few seconds with the o2 sensor disconnected. I now have a brand new o2 sensor installed, so this code should not return once I reset the computer.

Which just leaves code 6: Coolant temperature. Would a bad coolant temperature sensor cause these symptoms?
