April 27, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: Slipping Clutch on 1993 D15B Honda Civic Hatchback with only 2000miles. Please Help. #454166Yea Honda wanted to charge I believe $1100-1200 for a clutch replacement. But the warranty from the first shop I was talking about doesnt cover lets say if the clutch burns out. What are causes of the clutch burning? Is it just speed racing or could it be because of a bad flywheel too. Let me know if you guys have an idea or possible explanation for the following. Before my clutch started slipping, I would drive normally the speed limit. When trying to add a little gas on the on ramp to the freeway I always smelled something coming from the engine bay. It was a very strong smell kind of smelling like something was indeed burning or heating up. Im not looking for an answer to what that smell is im looking for why it would smell just because I give the car a little gas while trying to catch up to speed on the freeway? Could it be caused by the Flywheel, not being resurfaced, burning my clutch? Could it be my tranny? I could make the smell come and go just easily by putting it into a high gear at a speed of like 20mph and stepping on it. Clutch burning?
April 26, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: Slipping Clutch on 1993 D15B Honda Civic Hatchback with only 2000miles. Please Help. #454163Apparently the shop I wanted to take it too for the warranty lied. Let me explain. They gave me the price of $567 but they left out that that price was only for labor only and did not include parts which is complete bs if you were to ask me. I have all the tools except maybe a air rachet. I believe ima do it myself with my friend and I found this great DYI. Heres the url to the DYI. Look at it and let me know if you guys want to add anything. http://www.honda-acura.net/forums/do-it-yourself/139802-civic-flywheel-clutch-install-58-pics.html . On the transmission itself isnt there two bolts. one for drain and one for refilling which should be located on its upper left mid side if your looking at it from the passenger side? I really dont want to take out the speed sensor for the reason that the latch on it or whatever you call the thing that contains the bolt to hold the speed sensor down is cracked and is held with some super strong cement glue. I have a mini pump cannister and can pump the tranny oil through the second hole that I think is on the upper mid left side like I said above. Also can you guys recommend a flywheel that doesnt go over $120 please. Im not sure if Exedy makes just a OEM instead of their lightweight racing one. But anyways I need a reliable and durable flywheel. The OEM from Honda was $197, I called today to my local Honda.

April 24, 2012 at 11:00 am in reply to: Slipping Clutch on 1993 D15B Honda Civic Hatchback with only 2000miles. Please Help. #454156I’m really debating with either buying the parts as far as the clutch and flywheel and installing it with my friend or paying a shop to do it but they will only use there parts because of warranty. They use the brand Luk for clutch but when asked about the flywheel resurface they said that’s additional $99 dollars. What do you guys think I should do? Take a chance and install it myself or pay around 660 for a shop to do it plus the 3 year warranty (but they’ll use only there brands)?
