I don’t use those type of gloves. I use gloves that will protect my hands. I use the mechanix brand mpact gloves with the rubber on the knuckle. They have saved my hands from some nice pain. On the other hand, on the 2 occasions that I should’ve been wearing them, I cut my hand open in 3 spots. Once I got stitches, and the other 2 cuts were almost deep enough for stitches. As far as keeping my hands clean, I just use a rag or wait until I’m done working and use that orange stuff from autozone.
The earthquake tools are good. I had a central pneumatic impact gun and it was useless. No power. I obviously returned it.
You do bring up some good questions, but again, unless their is a problem or your transmission starts to slip, leave it be. I know you said thats what you are going to do, I’m just repeating myself. My friend had to change out his transmission on his 96 passat. I don’t remember what was the problem. It goes without saying, when you need to work on your transmission, thats when you put new fluid and filter in.
I have a Kawasaki 1/2 drive cordless impact gun. I believe its a 19 volt. It has about 210-220 ft/lbs of torque. It really does help speed things up a lot. Its not heavy duty, but it helps. I get things done with it. I got it on ebay for $50 with free shipping.
I have a 34mm and a 1.5″.
Timing belts can be real tricky. They have to be on real tight and on the correct tooth mark. Take the belt off, adjust the timing again, and put that belt back on real snug and fit. Check the timing marks before proceeding. If they are off again, then just repeat. Keep doing that until you get it right. My first timing belt did the same thing. I had to repeat those steps about 8 times before I got it right. Let us know how it went. Good luck.
September 17, 2012 at 3:05 pm in reply to: Anyone have experience replacing struts on a Pontiac G6? What do you think of quick strut kits? #464751I don’t have experience with the g6, but most pontiacs are the same. The grand am, grand prix, and montana (cars that I worked on), all look the same under the hood. That being said, I would imagine the g6 is probably the same. Eric has a video on replacing front struts on a 2001 pontiac grand prix I believe. It worked out fine for him. You should check it out. Good luck. Also, heed all warnings in the video. Those springs can take your head off. You might want a buddy to help you if you never did a job like this before. Be very careful. Good luck, have fun, and like Eric says, stay dirty.
Don’t go against the manufacturer reccommendations unless you have an actual problem with your transmission and need to open it. VW’s have (for lack of a better term) forever sealed transmissions. The fluid is good enough to last a lifetime. Opening that transmission can make things worse. I have a 2001 passat and a 2005 touareg. My whole family has VW’s. I have alldata and it does show you the steps to follow if you need to do a transmission fluid change, but again, that’s if you really need to. Leave it alone, trust me.

I like the episode that doesn’t feature anything to do with the show.Local shop in the neighborhood.
I was the one who paid for the mistake and tried getting my money back but the guy wouldn’t refund me. So I never went back.
My car wasn’t out of action as it was only an A/C repair.
The A/C works now and has never stopped working since the repair.
I blame the shop owner for misdiagnosing the problem.
It was a 2005 VW Touareg 4.2L. It was blowing warm/hot air instead of cold air. I took it to another shop after I got ripped off at the first one and they had it fixed in an hour and a half. The first shop charged me $130 to do a complete evacuation of the system and recharge it. That wasn’t the problem. Unfortunately this was about 3 years ago, so I really don’t remember what the actual problem was. Maybe it was electrical or something because A/C compressor was working and going on.Real nice job on those rims. Came out good.
Yea, don’t let all the negative posts dissuade you. I had a 2001 Passat V6 2.8L GLX 4Motion. Yes it was an automatic. However, it was the best car I have ever driven. That car was very reliable. The only reason why I got rid of it was because I needed some extra money to buy my 2005 VW Touareg V8 4.2L. I really like VW’s. They are very reliable and they do build one heck of an engine. I never experienced any electrical problems on my Passat, but I do hear that VW’s do have electrical problems. Nothing to affect the driveability of the car. I have electrical problems in my car now. My headlight on one side blew out, my turn signal works, but occassionally it will blink fast. Other than these nuounces, I love VW’s.
Oh ok. I get what you’re saying now.

I might suggest instead of doing a google search, try to use a bit torrent search; let me explain: I have a friend who is from Russia and he showed me and helped my sign up for a free Russian torrent site (instead of the URL ending in .COM it ends in .RU) I use Google Chrome as it has a automatic translate and will translate the Russian words into English. The torrent site I have been able to download actual manufacture DVD service manuals, like the ones that dealerships have. They come in an ISO image and you have to use one of the CD / DVD burning programs like Roxio or Nero. The copyright laws are very loose over there so they publish on their web servers everything. I am currently working on a Navigation DVD ISO image for my car instead of paying over $250 for a OEM Nav DVD, I am searching the site for one that will work with my car and I can burn my own with Nero from an ISO image. I will post once I get it done to let people know if it works. If someone over the has software that will work with your obd2 scanner it might be there. I have HEARD that people find everything from music, movies, software, books on CD or MP3, and TV showsW;)
Hey, what’s the name of the torrent site? The Russian site.
Oh, I see what you’re saying Eric. I’m not a Honda guy, but I do know how to read diagrams. I do think you’re right though about it being on the later models, because that diagram doesn’t show the multiplex unit as the master switch. On the speaker wire issue, it doesn’t show anywhere on the diagram about there being speakers on that circuit. So my guess is that those are not OE speakers, or the speakers were replaced and/or modified, splicing into the cruise control circuit.
