I myself believe why dealership mechanics suffer is because you can only take your car to a dealer for recall and warranty work whereas you can take your car to your fav mechanic/shop and pay 3x LESS the price of what the dealership will charge for the same exact work at the same exact quality. For example you can take your car into the dealer for a brake job and pay $600 bucks OR you can take your car to a shop have your brakes fixed/changed or whatever for around $200-$300 depending in the job. You can spend about $10 in oil and a filter and change the oil yourself rather than pay a shop $30 to do it for you.

People cannot afford the prices it costs to fix their cars anymore. They realize that they can do it themselvs at a fraction the cost and are willing to spend several hrs/days compared to a shop to do it themselves.
What about lowering prices more competitive to local shops?

I understand the counter-points would be dealership training, dealer overhead/upkeep, and such; but maybe the amount of customers coming in would offset that.

      Opinions?

If you don’t know when the other fluids were changed, I’ll add it’s a good thing to change all of them.

You will now know when they’ve been done, and it definitely won’t hurt the car. The only possible exception is automatic transmission fluid; if it hasn’t been changed in a LONG time.

Please do not flush your transmission. Only drain and refill.

A transmission flush will damage the internals on this transmission in particular.

I think this has been mentioned in the forum in the past; with Eric also covering the topic.

I’ve never owned an American-origin car, so I’m not going to comment on their reliability. I do own a 2000 Honda Accord, which to my knowledge, was never produced in Japan and was made in the US. It’s served me well thus far.

I doubt a car manufacturer deliberately makes a car “cheap”. I think they have a time and money budget, probably coming from corporate, and they have to make do with what they have. This creates the “most bang-for-your-buck” scenario.

You would have to have somewhat dispensable income and materials to overcome the aforementioned scenario, and the only car manufacturers I see being the closest to that is probably Exotics.

                    Thanks Eric. Very informative video.

Any legitimate reason why there are states that do not do emissions testing? It doesn’t make sense to me.

As long as the engine replacement videos provide all the necessary and correct essentials and procedures; I think you are entitled to get paid for it. In my opinion, that goes for any job that is as extensive as this.

I haven’t found a reason to doubt the thoroughness and concept of your videos. I say keep doing what you’re doing, because it seems to be working well thus far.
I just had my car checked and they told me I had a bad convertor. Is this piece neccessary? Or can I just drive the car without replacing it? What effects does this have on the car?
The catalytic converter is a mechanism used to decrease pollutants. It contains compounds that react with hydrocarbons in exhaust gases and chemically converts them to water and other less harmful compounds.

Please do not remove the catalytic converter and drive without it/them.

Now, do you have a CEL? A bad catalytic converter also usually provides symptoms; such as a rattling noise, a bad smell, lack of power when pressing the gas pedal, and subsequently bad gas mileage.

You may still want to check the voltage on your battery. If I’m not mistaken, a weak alternator will create more strain on your battery.
