If the car is in neutral at 2k RPMs it doesn’t make the noise, only in drive or reverse! It has 140k miles and it has a throttle body so I guess a throttle cable type system

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 02 Nissan Altima 2.5L
When driving between 2k and 3k RPMs I hear a noise kind of a knocking noise which is constant, I mean the frequency doesn’t change as I speed or increase the RPMs! I’t always the same! I have no idea where it’s coming from, I can also reproduce the noise without driving, just by pressing on brakes and the gas at the same time to get it up to 2k RPM and I hear the noise. I know I’m burning a lot of oil so I wonder if piston rings can cause the noise!
Also I noticed that it becomes louder and more intense after a long ride, when the engine gets really hot! When it’s colder I don’t hear it as much!

Any ideas? Please help! Thank you!

PS: the noise has been there for a while, thicker oil didn’t help, lucas didn’t either!

OMG! Thank you everyone for your help! It is so embarassing but the whole problem seemed to be a fuse, a missing fuse! I was looking for a blown fuse but I was actually missing the O2 sensor fuse, don’t know how that happened but finally found a fuse diagram and figured that I am 1 fuse short and finally got it! Thank everyone!

splice? interesting, I’d love to look at a diagram, after replacing the cat and o2 sensors I tried starting the car and I did hear a spark like noise, similar to when a fuse blows, I checked all the fuses and they are ok so the short might have happen somewhere at the splice! Anyways if you have a diagram I’d be so thankful, I couldn’t find one! Thank you
