Want to add that a little over 250 miles ago head gasket, water pump, tensioner, guides replaced, vehicle has been running fine since… until the stalling
In the rare chance that someone else has this issue, I resolved it by relearning cam and crank sensors.
Thank you so much for all of you that brainstormed and offered tips and help!!
It gave me a reason to order my o ring kit for leak down tester and for this stupid scan tool to earn what I stupidly paid for it years ago!
Will do leak down test next, thanks
Swapped each component separately to see if the misfires followed the component or remained in the cylinder.
New intake manifold gasket and injector o rings are in and complete same issue
STFT doesn’t get interesting until 2000 and 2500, not sure if the names of these attachments come through
below is 2500
below is idle

Well I bababooey’d this one haha. My modis ultra does the fob for this 04 Malibu, but not this 01 Dakota (there are no programmed fobs) or 01 E38.
I have INPA for the BMW but I don’t know if it is the fob or the program preventing the fob from programming
I had intake on wrong notch! Starts now but immediately stalls! Until tomorrow night haha

Can I post video? After head gasket replacement, did a pressure test with valve cover off… bubbles of coolant right here!
Can there be a crack in head I can’t see? Sent from my VS835 using Tapatalk

Removed valve cover. Found a nice puddle of fresh coolant in between 2 and 3.
Does anyone know of a write up or video of replacing head gasket and the likely stripped head bolts?
Are there sections of the timing chain that can remain assembled?
Have you done a leak down test? If so and negative result, my next step would be to check all intakes for signs of leaks. There’s an example of this kind of diagnosis here (paid channel, but worth it):

Did regular compression test, as well as leak down. Looks like I’ll be subscribing to this to check it out, thanks 🙂
If you need to keep adding coolant it’s going somewhere …
Might suggest you re pressurize the cooling system and let it sit over night. You could also remove the spark plugs and inspect them for being extremely clean.
A sign of burning coolant.
Also you can use a bore scope and have a look at the tops of the pistons for clean spots or coolant residue.
Pressurized both short and long term overnight, didn’t lose any pressure. Will check tops of pistons, thanks 🙂
I’ll put the end at the beginning. I passed inspection, but would rather not say how. You can probably guess.
Took it to a dealer, but they said it had the most current software.
In an effort to chase the fuel trims, checked with a known good MAP, same readings. Took apart the intake and all vacuum lines and smoked individually, which means I plugged one end while smoking it at low pressure. During this I found a lot of “maybes”. Cracked ends of lines, loose older lines. I replaced as I found them and began to wonder if the combined tiny leaks were causing one big one. Replaced gaskets (intake, throttle body, valve cover).
Swapped my fuel rail and regulator with a known good one, same readings.
Removed both cats and both rear exhaust pieces and smoked individually. I got SO excited finding a pinhole leak at the rear sensor, but it was repaired and as you can guess, it didn’t help.
I just want to thank you guys for hanging in there and helping me brainstorm this. I learned a lot and some of you really know your stuff. In 18 months I may have this car again in my life (it belongs to a family member) to try to finally find the cause of the fuel trim issue. But I can’t keep their car forever, and they only wanted a sticker.
I was hoping to find the cause to help someone else “suffering” as I have, and I am sorry I don’t have better news.
Thanks again to all those who tried and tried and tried with me!
Smoked through the upper o2 port. I think I found a pinhole BY THE DOWNSTREAM SENSOR!!! Found in the middle of the night and had to just walk away.
Tonight going to remove the brand new resonator (where the port is located) and see what I can see.
For the sake of ending this nightmare I hope it is it.
But for my pride, I’m going to need to eat a lot of humble pie!
I just went along the whole exhaust again, and removed the heat shield on the manifold cat. I could be just not hearing it. Can I smoke the exhaust?
